No significant difference?? Not much different? I just squared of, me flying the Delta4 with a full pod harness with my friend on a Photon and full harness. Take a wild guess which glider got the doors blown off. HUGE difference. If there wasn't a huge difference, people would have nothing to rave about with the Photon like they all are. What would the point of releasing an ENC 2 liner be if it didn't blow the doors off of all of the makes of 3 liner ENC gliders? DUH!! There is not even a comparison between these 2. The Photon would be in danger of catching up to and running into you from behind.

Szia, igen, jóval agilisabb az xcracer, precízebben lehet vele termikelni, szűkebben fordulni. Jóval mocorgósabb mint a photon, fogni kell. De egy repülés alapján jobban tetszik

Congratulations 90km and this is nice video to see how you fly Photon! Did you find a glide difference compared to Alpina4 in head-wind? (maybe in another flight) As you mentioned, of course it seems to need some arrangement on regular turning, if used to fly 3-liners. How about the sense of safety and difficulty in rough conditions? Is there a big gap with Alpina4?

The Alpina flies very well but for sure the photon has better performance in head wind. Full speed is faster too. However my personal feel is that overall difference between A4 and photon is smaller than between photon and top D wings (zeno 2, xc racer 2, etc). So photon is a strong C wing and to compare it with top D wings is more marketing than reality. On safety it's very solid and well behaving wing (I flew it in strong spring conditions in Dobrca and Gemona), but significantly more demanding than A4. Active piloting is required, but if you do it, it doesn't want to collapse at all. For some reason there is not much talk about size and performance when people are comparing wings, but this factor is essential. Bigger size (100+ kg) will always fly better than small wings. There are tiny differences between modern C wings in the same size and similar load!!! If you are between sizes and another manufacturer has a slightly bigger wing that fits you, go for that one and ballasts up to the top.

This is the best Photon video on KZfaq! Great use of the 360 cam. Gorgeous day, so green, cloudbase. Happy Flymaster! I have only had one short flight on my Photon. Like you I'm coming from A4/D4 and also noticed the long brake travel. I fly with a half-wrap; I noticed that for a while you took a wrap-and-half. I am wishing it had a more precise and direct feel on the brakes, I love the way the A4 feels. When I have a chance to try it in thermals, I want to experiment with just using the B handles for thermalling and see how that feels. I really don't like flying with my hands down low. I don't like the idea of shortening the brake lines. But, I will never fly it at more than two-thirds bar, so I'm wondering if I could get away with shortening them about 10 cm.

Alpina 4 was my favourite C glider. I trust Ozone when it comes to both performance and safety. Plus ozone wings are good sellers on the 2nd hand market

you still found the brakes long after coming from the Alpina 4? I fly Delta 4 at present and find I need to take a wrap also with Alpina 3, I thought it was very much an Ozone trait to have longish brakes. not tried an Alpina 4 but would say delta 4 pretty much flies itself, so I'm not surprised it will need more piloting. 😊

My A4 turns with 10-15 cm of brake, with a joyful feel, it's fun! The P will turn, but it takes 15 to 25 for the same effect, and you need to pull to the inside. It's not bad per se, just not as nice as the D4/A4. Ziad also noticed this.

Yeah that's why everyone is paying over $6000 and reporting that it also blows the doors off of the Mantra 7. Believe me, we did the research. My friend Tom owns both the Mantra7 and the Photon. The Photon destroys the Mantra7 and the Delta4. The Mantra7 (as well it should) beats the Delta4. There's rumours of a 2 liner Delta5.

Hi, I flew the MS at 95kg. I would recommend to fly it few kgs lighter (91-92) for more efficient climbing. I flew around 250 hours in C class on different wings, 2-3 FAI 2 comps a year. Before the Photon I had an Alpina 4. Handling is something you have to get used to coming from 3-liners. In thermal the wing is not that agile, not easy to turn tight, breaks are long so it's better to apply a wrap when thermaling. Easy to push the speed bar, B riser stearing is very efficient and direct. Solid and safe wing, but one step higher than A4 or D4 in terms of pilot demand. Only slight performance difference was showing comped to D4 during this flight, but it was week weather with short glides and tail wind. Overall feeling about the Photon is very good.

@@BaratAdi Thanks for the info. I spoke Pepe, who is flying at World Championships and has been flying Ozon for a long time and represents as a dealer. He told me that a 2-liner needs a lot of idle on the brakes to be able to fly quickly. Therefore, you have to wrap every fast 2-liner and get used to it.

To my knowledge and experience Ozone wings are recommended to load in upper section of the weight range. Flying at 95kg the MS photon I felt some disadvantage in week thermals, I would aim it somewhere to 91-92kg

Photon manual: For the most precise and dynamic handling or if you generally fly in mountains and/or in strong conditions, you should chose to fly near the top part of the weight range. If you want a better sink rate, or if you generally fly in flat lands and/or in weaker conditions, you may choose to fly nearer the middle part of the weight range. Remember, you can always add ballast when conditions are stronger. It is not recommended to fly at the very bottom of the weight range.
