Personal training/mt is a great combo. Train clients then tell them about your massage services. Like salt n pepper

The Massage Industry is going to suck until unions are formed, you will be taken advantage of and not paid your worth.

Pros: 1. Qualification is fairly fast to obtain (at least 9 months.). 2. Flexible shifts. 3. Involves movement rather than sedentary behaviour. 4. Work environments are versatile. Cons: 1. Be available when everyone else is available (working night shifts/ weekends/holidays). 2. Labour Intensive. 3. Benefits are most likely unavailable. 4. Salary is a personal responsibility (IF self employed) .

Think you could have prepared a bit more for this, but overall this was good in comparison to some other 'Massage Pro & Con' clips. Glad you mentioned the feast or famine thing. If you work for yourself in this profession, you only make income when you have clients; no clients means no income. Also when you work for yourself, there are no benefits; no paid sick time nor vacation time, no retirement plan, no collecting time and a half for overtime nor holidays. You only generate income when you get clients. Additionally, LMTs get solicited from time to time for more than a 'massage,' and you need to figure out how to deal with that; do you turn them away, refer them to someone that you know of that does that kind of stuff, or when you're in a famine stage do you chance it 'cause you need the income? This can be a very rewarding profession, but it's not for everybody.

If you are starting out and maybe can't afford insurance (I'm not sure what the rates are either, newbie here) is it realistic to have a waiver that they are getting a massage at their own risk you can both keep a copy of?

Male massage therapist here, I never realized how much of a con it can be by just being a male in a female dominanted field. I know it comes with the territory but I remember my first year into my career, on how it would bum me out when I would hear from the clients on how they refuse to be worked on by me.

I’ve been at this for 14 years. I have worked in some big industries including the government. I might make a video but I am VERY honest. To keep it brief I don’t recommend Massage therapy as a career to anyone.

I have been considering going to massage school for several years now, and just as I was getting closer to pull the trigger, and as my best friend went to school and is now completed his program and doing fairly well for himself. I actually ended up fracturing my proximal phalanx of my pinky finger and it healed with a malunion. I had to get several x-rays and CT scans and I feel like my hand has a lot more information and arthritis already setting in. However there is a part of me that thinks maybe Doing that massage therapy program could actually be better for my hand in someway. Because I am getting more exercise for it. I’ve always enjoyed learning about natural alternative remedies through herbalism as well as essential oils. I know they have different techniques where you can limit the use of your hands and also use other parts of your body like your elbows or even bamboo etc. i’m not sure I have such a good opportunity to go to school in Texas because it’s so close to where I’m at. Plus it’s a very affordable program. I just don’t know if I’m ready to commit to that yet. I would look at doing massage more like a side hustle part-time on the evenings and weekends around a full or part-time job at hopefully offers benefits. In regards to salary, I feel like some massage therapist I like teachers, some teachers make a lot more than they lead you want to believe. My friend just finished school and is making $80 an hour. Soo the sky’s the limit man. If your personable you can hopefully build client list by going to gym and prospecting. I’d hopefully never work for those bs slave mills of massage envy. Taking allllll that profit from you. Absurd. Maybe If it’s better than having rent at an office sure but I doubt it. He found an studio for about $500 a month to rent

I'm definitely considering going to massage therapist school. I have worked as a certified nursing assistant in the nursing home for 14 years. So, I have seen people's bodies. And I am ready for a new career. Thank you for the pros and cons. I wanna work on a cruise ship as a LMT.

I'm in Massage therapy school now. Today was my first day. The job Market for the north-west suburbs of Chicago, it's about 45 minutes away from Chicago, the market is paying a lovely salary. Of course Chicago is a big city. Clinics are hiring, cosmetic clinics are hiring. Wages from 29 to 50an hour. The money is good but, my professor did say if I decide to be my own contractor I must get my own insurance though. I haven't checked out the benefits. I just been looking at jobs and salaries so far. I'm really excited. I do want to relocate somewhere in Los Angeles at some point. I do want to have my esthetician and cosmetology license along with the massage therapy. My goal is to have a spa/salon. I do want to start with an hour job, build my clientele. Save and work on my business on the side until I'm ready to be my own boss.

I am graduating soon but wish I knew more details of different modalities. Even deep pressure tissue massages, my deep pressure is questionable. Most of the things we did was Swedish massage. Not terrible, but just want to improve and I am nervous. How do you get the nervous feeling away when you massage?

En Argentina realmente mucha gente trabaja "en negro" o fuera del sistema, pero si trabajas por tu cuenta también tenes la opción de registrarte como monotributista y pagar impuestos. También hay una lista de obras sociales a las cuales podes afiliarte.

Thanks for the video, I'm still deciding whether or not to jump into the program. How does the hour long massage session feel? Is it exhausting? Fulfilling? Painful? Does it feel like forever? Or does it go by fast?
@pikadore216

I am currently in a massage therapy program and I have to say, that hour absolutely flys by for me. I always feel like it's not enough time to address most people's whole body effectively. It can be exhausting. And it can be painful. But proper body mechanics minimize it. And more often than not, I'm energized by giving massage. People genuinely appreciate and need the work you are doing. It's very fulfilling.
