I got the EC Reverse Dot, and it sounds great at high tuning
@rcb_mattКүн бұрын
how long did it actually take to install? I am tempted to install one and drill a hole for an XLR connection. That way the kick is mic'd and all I have to do is connect the XLR to the shell.

how thick are the shells? also trying to choose between this and walnut, these darker rims for sure look more slim, but overall I prefer walnut shells. hard to choose as wide yellow wooden hoops don't look particularly attractive to me
@ZackZweifel18 күн бұрын
The reason I love them is they are actually thin shells. To give them the classic big tones they kept them thinner.

Was doing a lot of research on this kit. I've heard a lot of good things about it! Watched a lot of videos but I think this is the one that really sold me! I'm for sure going to be running that tom head and kick drum batter head combo for sure! Thanks for posting!
@ZackZweifel18 күн бұрын
I'm glad the video could help! I'm still rocking the same combo today and absolutely love it. So big and full with deep tones and depth. Love it!

@@ZackZweifel Thanks for the response, Zack! Are you running stock resonant heads on the toms as well?
@ZackZweifel6 күн бұрын
Yes I felt the stock reso heads on these kits were good enough to keep on. I've had no troubles with them and they tune up just fine.

They all sounded good, depending on what you're using it for, for Rock/Metal genre works well. For Jazz and old school funk genre won't work.

The one that says DW on top and Remo on bottom (the white head) was the Factory DW Remo. The Black head that says EVANS on the bottom with gold KickPort was the EVANS EQ3. Then, if you watch the video, you can see the microphone placement on the black head change from center to port hole. I figured it was obvious enough not to need labels. But I'll make sure next time I add labels.

@cymbalslasher22 күн бұрын
I think they all are essentially the same and putting the mic somewhat in the bass drum gives a little more isolation from other sounds.
@ZackZweifel21 күн бұрын
Yeah in the kick port is my favorite also. I like that it's a bit more aggressive.
@tillsommerdrums22 күн бұрын
Having a Kickport and then micing the center of the bass drum really is not a good idea because you will get a lot less vibration than without the kickport. The kickport really only exists for micing the porthole. If I wanted to also mic the easy head itself I would not put a kickport in there. So the comparison between the factory head and the kickport head both being mic'd in the center is rather flawed. Mic in the porthole sounded the best
@ZackZweifel21 күн бұрын
yeah understandable but figured I would see how it sounded since I had the capability. I really wanted to do the head without the kick port and just the port hole.. but installing those kick ports with the head on is a pain in the ass lol

I once had a chip come off my drumstick (it was about 5cm long, 1cm wide and thickness was a slope, which makes sense as it was a piece of the shoulder) I don't have wood glue, but I do have super glue... I used that, did not even use a clamp, and then sanded it. It works as a temporary fix, but i was surprised that it did last a month (not daily playing, but weekly) after all! WHen the chip came off again, it was almost exactly the same size as before. so then I sanded that part, just to not have a porcupine like your stick, and it's a backup now (or for whenever I need to hit a lot of cowbell)
@ZackZweifel22 күн бұрын
yeah have always just been curious lol so gave her a shot and it was surprisingly super strong! Outlasted the other stick.

I wish I had some tools and skill like you to make a trap table like this! I do wonder though.. Why did you not want it centered front-to-back? All tables I've seen, have it centered.

My thought reasoning behind keeping the mount further back is so I can creep the stand over things easier..
@mvl820922 күн бұрын
That's indeed a nice reasoning! Do you still use it to this day? Are there any stability issues because it's further back?

All 3 sounded pretty good to me. But we do not know what your doing on the mixing board your using to record this audio. I did a similar experiment a long time ago. I found the kick port to actually cause problems. It damaged the port hole I cut and tore the bass drum head. So I prefer to use a 4 3/4 plastic reinforcement ring, no kick port and I place my mic inside farther. It's about 4 inches inside the port and pointed at the beater. I get a lot more slap and thud while still getting plenty or resonance. I also use single ply emadd head as a batter. And an Emadd reso. This is a very good video. Thank you for doing this. Bruce
@ZackZweifel22 күн бұрын
yeah I've had some failed ports in the day.. but I've learned to cut short and then sand it until even with the template. That's worked great for me.

Eq3 with Mike centered on head...seemed to produce more volume and a deeper note...I had similar luck as posted above, with my kickport...now run my eq3 , with the factory port only...less wear and tear on the head...and did not help with tone, or enhance volume...my O2..
