I’ve seen my share of patients who are so obsessive in following their plan of care at times without regard to safe practice. Literally providers are cajoling them to please listen to recommendations based on ACOG guidelines. Each time I pray that they would listen and relent. And whenever they do, I always wonder if these people truly know how close they were to a horrible outcome if they chose to stick with their original plan.

I am heartbroken for this man and his children. This did not have to happen, which makes it so much worse. I agree that the midwife should not ever be allowed to practice again, anywhere. She was entirely negligent in caring for this woman. What medical professional asks their patient whether or not to call for additional help in an emergent situation?! I'm hesitant to blame a dead mother for what happened to her. She was the patient and she thought she was in good hands. However, she was an ER NURSE. How did she not take every precaution possible for a safe delivery, after her previous complications? If you have ANY indication for problems during delivery, you need to deliver in a hospital. That's my personal opinion.

So they made the choice, did not do their due diligence and of course, ADHS didn’t do anything until there was a death, even with multiple reports on the midwife. Bang up job!!
