you jumped over the political extremists too fast and lobsided, in the last .. roughly decade plus minus a few years the extreme left caused/held significantly more riots and property damage than extreme rights, absolutely not a fan of either .. but extreme leftism has a tendency to be played down WAY TOO MUCH in the western world

I saw two political signs side by side in 1986 in Gauting where I lived. The left one (SPD of course) said “Der Gerechtigkeit Mehr Gewicht”. BTW, the SPD guy was a real chubber. The CSU sign said “Bei uns in Bayern”. Let it be known that the SPD was trying to get the government totally involved in business while the CSU was more laissez-faire. Also let it be known that the SPD states were much poorer than Bayern. 😂 Also, when I saw the two signs, I nearly fell on the ground rolling over laughing.

23:06 to be fair Social Justice isn’t just about race, gender and other marginalized group issues in the the US social justice takes on that term because of how economically and politically disenfranchised we we’re because of segregation and other colonialist policies that decimated the nonwhite people in the country. Social justice in its actual sense is not that different from the German use of the word either we want to be able to have justice and financial freedom and equality for all without people being exploited and the exploiters getting even more powerful. The internet especially during the mid 2010s sadly did an amazing job at bastardizing the term into a caricature that is supposed to be mocked and ridiculed. The same thing happening with the word “Triggered” in reference to people being annoyed and over reactive when it was originally coined to mean something that brings on or worsens symptoms of PTSD. This often happens to people with a history of trauma or who are recovering from mental illness, self-harm, addiction, and/or eating disorders.

#tribe36 Then there are the cynical, embittered people who believe that they can have no real influence on either side and that even with the best intentions and efforts they cannot achieve change. Unfortunately, I have to count myself among them, as I don't want to go along with the ideological and entrenched procedures of the established parties and I'm far too "left-green" to join in with the asshats.

What suprised me so much is how NOT sensationalized and commercialized dejure-politics / candidates seem to be there as compared to the united states. Here it absolutely dominates a broad arc of our current pop-culture, with billions of dollars of merchandise for candidates being circulated. Whereas it seems that it is much more mundane in Germany, being only a not-too noticeable part of the cultural landscape, with little more broad cultural impact than a mediocre fashion trend!

I think that's mostly down to our regulations on campaign funding. All donations to the parties over €50,000 must be reported to parliament, which publishes a list of all the big donors. They're also not allowed to put up posters for more than the official election season. Campaign ads on television are also severely limited in their length. Add to that the fact, that there's little inner-party fighting about candidates over here. German parties are a lot less democratic than the US ones, as in: There are no primaries to select a candidate for chancellor. Most of the time, the upper echelon of party bigshots just makes that decision, but the party base has little say in picking them. That's definetly a downside, BUT it has the nice positive effect that we do not have the intense personalization, where one person needs to establish a loud brand to beat off competitors from their own party. There's no incentive for an Olaf Scholz character to have "OLAF" written on all the campaign material. It's all focused on the parties, which de-personalizes politics a whole lot.

Hey hey, great video, one tribe I think maybe looking at the European elections result is maybe "Bauchwahler" or Stomach voter. People who are kind of apolitical generally but maybe come out as fiercely political when their personal standard of living drops (bread, energy, kepap prices) I realise this kind of describes everyone alive in a democracy to an extent but yeah.

Germany is incredibly racist spending any amount of campaign funds on things like this would only hurt you, your counter example is a pretty big stretch, they dont champion for their people much at all, and if they do its within the context of them integrating into german society 33:40 damage done to roads increases expontentially with speed, a 130km/h limit would save an obscene amount of money Car drivers are already leeching off everyone else, even with the rather high taxes we have on gas etc our road maintanence is a financial black hole 42:35 in what universe are they illegal they are in the federal goverment

52:50 Not really. The public has been very left leaning and partially still is, (primarily due to ÖRR Propaganda etc.) which often leads to people being ostracized and pressured into certain political opinions, if the dare openly saying they are pro AFD. It's at the point where some people have been threatened to get fired over participating in "#Stolzmonat", because some coworker literally ratted them out to their employer. Not to forget this case where a school director literally called up the police to have them remove a 16 year old female student from class, during class and for all to see, over a pro-AFD Post on her social media. (No she has not said anything extremist) (After being denounced by a classmate) So yeah... Politics in germany in 2024? They are anything BUT chill right now. Especially since Mannheim. (Though that one only happened like 10-12 Days ago) But the rest was before this video was uploaded, if i recall correctly.

38:08 Patriotism in general doesn't really have a point. You have no influence over your place of birth or family, so what's there to be proud of? On the flipside: I do find it downright retarded to expect people who have exactly nothing to do with the holocaust, to feel guilty about it. Though acknowledging the past isn't a bad thing. ...Brainwashing your country into believing they are the embodiment of evil, just because some of their great grandparents arguably were, is just a big ass pile of retarded BS-logic though. Just imagine someone walks up to Mongolia and expects reparations for dschingis khan? Or to Belgium and expects it for Leopild the second? Or Britain and America for committing numerous genocides? Don't hear anyone holding them accountable for that, but even if; Would be just as much nonsense. After that logic: When your grandpa gets charged for murder, you would have to sit in too or what?? No thanks, that's just plain Bullshit.

32:49 Right you are. It is sponsored by the current government as far as i know, so guess which party doesn't get Highly recommended to you, even if you only choose the most conservative answers. Also... AFD is actually not a populist party, the public german media (which is mandatorily financed by all working citizens) is just inherently corrupted and spreads left-green, political propaganda instead of actual journalism for years at this point. There's whole social media accounts/KZfaqrs dedicated only to show the conflicting output and downright manipulation of it. (As well as the criminal incompetence of the current government.)

Awesome video, but I do have a #tribe36 - The ones I think you really missed are the "Vereinsjünger", the Club-Disciples. e.V.s are one of the main drivers of weekend and Holliday life in Germany, you are frowned upon if you are not a member of the local tennis club, football club, marching band, carnival club, environment club like the local Nabu or BUND and so forth. And the gatherings after the game or what ever event this club does on weekends, are often characterized by quite political discussions and form the youths political stances because you are supposed to engage in these clubs from a very young age. In rural areas the club-chairmen are often also the local mayors.

Surprisingly little has changed. Even the people leading the parties have remained more or less the same, as have their general positions and relations towards each other. So I wouldn't have to change much. The only meaningful development is, that "Die Linke" has lost a significant portion of its members to the offshoot "Bündnis Sarah Wagenknecht". They offer a more populist appeal, mixing left-wing economics with right-wing positions on social issues. They have been particularly vocal about trying to stop Germany from supplying further arms to Ukraine and propose entering early talks with Russia, possibly conceding to some of their demands. We'll see if this year's state elections will bring about some more drastic changes, with large expected gains for both the BSW and the AfD, possibly making traditional coalition governments mathematically unviable.
