Thank you so much for the awesome video. while you were trying out the plane, you were planning on a workbench as well as the planer stop. Would you kindly let us know what workbench and plane stop were they. Also, is there a workbench that you recommend that's south of $700 which comes with most bells and whistles. Thank you again and we appreciate all you do sir.

Thank you, the plane stop is from Lee Valley and the bench is Rockler. But I do NOT reccomend the rockler bench unless you are going to spend more money to stabilize it with more lumber and work. Actually even then I don't because the vises are not good. I don't know any bench under $700 that would check all the boxes unless you build your own. That's what I should have done. For example this thing (bench and vises) rack really bad. And the top is only held on by 4 screws. I'm down to only 2 screws now and need to take it all apart to modify and fix it. While I'm at that I need to stabilize it. In the long run, it is better and cheeper to build your own.

Nice work. I need to try Japaning some old planes I have. I doubt I could do much to them to make them worse than they already are 🙂. It's odd how watching a video reminds me of a past experience. Probably 20 years ago, I actually went to a turpentine festival. I had no idea what turpentine was, or how to use it, but I went. It was pretty underwhelming, but something not many people can say they have done.

We have been in communication, I have replied in a timely manner to every email and have sent you a replacement for a mistake the post office made. I just checked your tracking and it has not been scanned at my local post office so I will go down and talk to them later today to see what’s up. I have gone above and beyond any of your requests. I offered a refund and you did not say you wanted one so I sent you a new bottle. We all know the post office can not be dependable at times and you are just one of the unlucky victims, I am truly sorry for this but I am a very small startup company and negative comments like this hurt me more than other places. I am doing everything I can do for you besides driving across the country and hand delivering.

@@GlancysAlchemy I can appreciate that you are a small startup company. My last email to expressed that I did not want a refund and that I would just chalk it up as a loss. You stated that you “have gone above and beyond any of my requests”. I have not made any requests other than ordering and paying for the product. I certainly cannot tell you how to run your company. I am not the shipper, so I don’t have the option of going to your post office to see what’s up. I would not expect you to “drive across the country and hand delivering”. All I wanted was to see if Glancy’s No 1 would be my go to finish. Thanks for your prompt replies.

Great videos and product reviews. Another plane to avoid is the Stanley bailey low angle block plane. Spent over an hour trying to flatten the plane, never got it flat. Also had a lot slop. Guess you get what you pay for. For $45 cannot expect much. So took out the credit card and bought the Lie Nelson # 60.5 block plane. Awesome plane

Always fun watching other people work. Even more fun watching other people screw up, almost as much as I do. To change the subect a bit. your mention of Fusion 360 led me down a little rabbit hole on the Internet, with reviews of these products using tems I don't know. I know nothing about these type of programs. I'd like to know if you ever use this type of program, how often, and for what types of projects. Would that be worth a video?

Very narrow shavings compared to iron width! For me, the quality of sharpening (both the edge formed and the geometry) are way more important than minor design changes to the plane body.

I once ordered a rip filed large tenon saw from Bad-Axe. It was back when Mark was in charge. They sent (to me in Australia) a hybrid - i called them up, and they basically came up with every excuse from “nobody orders rip, our hybrids are better” to “its a custom configured saw, and it would be too expensive to remake it and organise return shipping”. At the time I had saved up for a couple of years for it. I decided I wouldnt be ordering anything else based on that. Note: the saw has performed wonderfully as an all around rip and x-cut, as I know Mark had high standards, it just simply wasn’t what i ordered, so I simply will get my next saw from someone else who will give me what i order.

I SO identify with the moving stuff around in search of ANY flat spot large enough to set down whatever it is that I need to set down... Veritas scraper plane is the best. To set up, for me, I place the plane on clean 18 mm MDF. I apply reasonable pressure by pushing the blade down being at about 80 degrees. I then tighten up the blade in place. Finally, checking the blade is parallel with the sole of the plane. Never had any major problems. I sharpen the blade at 45 degrees, and then burnish with a Crown brand tool. I always clean the plane completely after putting away. I use the thick blade only.
