Once you install this can it stay on the engine permanently?? Or do I have to remove it and put the plug back on to run the boat??

It stays on the engine permanently. Our cap locks and completely blocks the flow of water, it replaces the OEM plug.

I would think the engine should be running, wet exhaust, open valves= flooded cylinders. The engine should be running andwarm, so the thermostat is open to flush all water passages, if not you're bypassing the flow.

I always run my engine during the flush remind my neighbors I have a boat.I was told by someone who worked on boats 30+ years not a real flush If you don't get the engine to running temperature. You want the thermostats opening up. I run a boat with a Yamaha just hit 2k hour's. The guy that actually owns the boat told me dont worry about flushing it ok less work for me. Never has a problem. Never changed any thermostats dropped the lower unit to look at the impeller. Looked fine but did put a new one in. 2000 hours and only an impeller and oil. The throttle cable snapped. 2k hours on the water ans maybe 3hr maintenance doing pretty good.

@@rockerneck two boats two separate engines. Never got a flush and each of them. Made it to a thousand hours with only an oil change. I'm talking about Yamaha, not mercury 🤣🤣
