Why would anyone join the ACC?

When have we ever seen a State Legislature successfully tie two schools together? The closest was UCLA has to pay Cal some money because they were both UC system schools. The Wolfpack Backpack is a bluff meant to discourage. No Legislature wants to get into a legal battle. The only real question is does UNC want to leave.

The B12 romance with these two schools ended when the merger with the B12 was declined.,,,short sided by Cal/Stan./WSU/OSU …wonder what your vote was?? You let the power 4 schools in the Pac12 run things ..just like the B12 did! Now you are in limbo or Purgatory …..betting on others to pull you out of the tar pit! Additional realignment may be delayed due to legal battles and Pay to play enactment….leaving the biggest two Vultures ( SEC/B10) to hesitate and rethink their strategies going forward! They don’t have to do a thing!! While the third Vulture ( B12) is on standby….waiting to get to the leftovers. The Remnants of the ACC may survive but in a weakened state …forcing further movement. But your involvement or any B12 team with a weakened ACC may be wishful or flawed thinking…unless you buy your way in ! ESPN/ND/UNC/SEC/B10….still have to decide what they want to do or what it will look like…and it may take time and stages and a few more years to determine how big a pie there even is to split!..by everyone! So Stay tuned…..for a rumor near you!

But you didn't mention that ESPN has stepped into the ACC legal mess. They are now turning over various ACC revenue structures that would resolve the GOR mess in that conference with the goal of keeping the post FSU and Clemson conference. That is massive news. May not work out, but that's bombshell news given that everyone thought ESPN was going to sit things out and wait to see how the FSU/Clemson legal issues are finally decided.

ESPN has the Big12 locked up until 2031. Why would they hedge their bets on the ACC (extending the contract) when they can opt out of the ACC extension and simply fund additions of ACC schools to the Big12.

The BIG 12 is no more likely to poach ACC teams than a depleted ACC is to poach BIG 12 teams. When the ACC collapses then there is only a Power 2 at that point. The ACC and BIG12 will be eventually boxed out of the playoffs. The evolution of the ACC and BIG 12 to the Group of whatever will be complete. If that’s where we are going, then expansion for the ACC and BIG 12 wouldn’t be necessary. Unless the consolidation of the “Group of” conferences is more valuable, as they try to form separately into their own league and playoff structure.

Big 12 has better leadership and is going nowhere. ACC is on it's way out. Not sure why Drake Toll has become Drake Troll now.

This is all based on the assumption that UNC stays. When all points to that fact that they will leave once they know what it will cost. FSU, Clemson, UNC and UVA at the very least will be in a different college by 2027.

The B12 will be the canary in the coal mine. If the B12 goes under, college football itself will begin collapsing within 5 years of the B12s end. The sport as a whole needs more than 2 conferences to keep the viewership and interest. Piss off 75% of college with football programs and the interest in the sport will wane 5-10% a year until it is gone.

Kill or be killed… I don’t see the ACC as a safe have anymore… They are the conference with teams that want out and actually have options to do that. Big 12 has safety in the fact that they already been heavily poached. And picked through and managed to survive..
