I was wondering what would happen if they pick the same value card (1 in 17 chance) but totally missed that if they pick the same suit it would also not work, almost 1 in 4 times, so not that rare for it to happen. I guess we just ask them to check that they aren't so we can really come to a random card and even openly explain why it wouldn't work in those cases.

I instantly knew something was up when she made a point of telling the two audience members not to react, and then with the conclusion of the trick they seemed very underwhelmed. To me, a trick like this gets into awfully fuzzy territory with the Instant Stooge rule of the show. I almost think it's worse in some ways than if there'd been a visual cue given to him to say "47". So I guess technically, he had free choice to say whatever he wanted... we just didn't actually get to hear HIM say it and we got to hear an entirely different person say something else (whether it was another person with a mic or a pre-recorded track). But the fact he had to bite his tongue, or be the stooge that gave the trick away, just seems to fly awfully close to the sun... and rules. I get Cris Angel vibes. To me, it doesn't seem much different than if a camera/video editing was used to make the trick work.

For those that don't want to have a duplicate I'm guessing you could have 2 force cards on the deck at the same positions and those 2 force cards on position X (the one you choose) on the reveal deck one X cards from the top and the other X cards from the bottom and all you need to remember is when to count face down or face up from this deck. That way there are no duplicates in play.

I went back and watched him say his chosen number a few times. It seems like he says "17". Also, I noticed a little head tilt after he says his number, as someone would do if they were confused, like when another voice says 47 when you just said 17. Totally Magic, I think you're spot on!! you mentioned that the guy might not have mentioned 47. how do you know that the guy did not mention 47? what if the guy mentioned 47? what you have is a theory. what you have is circumstantial evidence.

I perform this using just the month of a person's birthday, they can freely chose. I'm not the most experienced performer, so having only 12 numbers to remember helps out great. When I showed this to my very sceptical daughter, her jaw dropped😂
