Thats a gorgeous PA 747 but... its tragic that Pan Am left us behind. Pan American was like the only 1st Class Airline. It was if Pan American World Airways ruled the world. It was if a Aviation dream became true....Plus, the Pan American Airways livery was the perfect match for the B747. It was if they were meant to be. R.I.P Pan American World Airways.

I love the part toward the end of the movie, 'Bullett' (1968), when they showed the interior of the SFO terminal. Theres shots of the Pan Am counter with a very elegant sounding women making the flight announcements. So polite, classy, and elegant.

This commercial was from when Pan Am was the head of the world's airlines, and Pan Am was truly shining at that time. When I visited New York in 1991, I remember going to the old Pan Am building and taking a photo. It's now an insurance company building, but... Also, just before the coronavirus outbreak, a party was held at a hotel in Hawaii for former Pan Am stewardesses, and everyone was getting older.

Clipper Black Sea was N 743 PA. N 748 PA was Clipper Crest Of The Wave. Sparking Wave was N 741 PA. All named after Clipper Ships. All delivered to the airline from Feb 28 to Mar 31 1970 , three of the original 25 747-121 and all but few that were converted to side door cargo carriers by the US Air Force for emergency use like Desert Storm escaped the scrappers.😢

The thought of operating a 747 between MIA and JFK, even 5 years ago when they were still flying, seems insane! I assume they simply had less daily flights? The passenger volume couldn’t be more than it is today…

This plane has the exact right proportions that's why it is so beautiful. No other big commercial airliner can match this least of all the plain ugly looking Airbus A380. Pan Am livery is great as the KLM is. Sadly in 1977 Tenerife they came together in a horrific accident mainly due to the inpatient and foolish behavior of the Dutch captain in the KLM 747.

I remember back in 1973 as a 11 yo we flew to the US on a 707. Then on our return back home we were on a 747 ,and i was in awe of the size inside and out .We were seated right in front of the famous spiral staircase leading up to first class. Then the word got around that Johnny Carson was upstairs in first class and i begged the air hostess if she can get me his autograph, and she was so nice and came back with a yellow slip with his signature on it. That was something that stays with me.

Back in the day ... commercials actually depicted the service/product you received...today commercials are "created" by advertising departments full of MBA's who manufacture a mythical service/product that you will never receive. Just shows the disconnect between executives and the real world that has happened since 1977.

Crikey, was there enough demand to warrant a 747? Wouldn't a 727 have done? (With in-flight movie as well! 😀)
