Sorry but I'm unable to remember the sizes as done a good few years ago. Think they were 2x 500 1x 400 and 2x 600 on top of each other.

Hi, did you use kitchen wall units or base units to make kitchen? If so what sizes? Thanks
@PremierPaintuk
@PremierPaintuk 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. On that campervan we used kitchen wall units. IKEA I seem to remember. I can't tell you the sizes but IKEA ones had better depth for the worktop and sink and hob to fit into correctly. We have done four other conversions since this one and now use scribed ply units that are alot easier and around the same price to fit. I will be uploading another video of our most recent conversion soon and it will show these in it. Thanks

Good job. Very well thought out building a small van. I also built a Renault Trafic L2-H2, but I didn't have time to build documentation. I made the film only after building a motorhome. I invite you to my channel.

Have you thought about putting a cabina 4 sided tent on the back doors ? They're great for an outside shower cubicle or toilet and are completely private.

First I've seen this type of raising roof, brilliant Job,but I would tilt it the opposite way so u gain full night as u enter van and rain runs away from awning.I am hoping to buy a bigger van this year and I will be fitting this style of roof, so thanks for another great idea on van conversions.

Top job. I'm in a similar situation, reliable works van (trafic) that's all paid for but has a low roof. You've got me thinking regarding the plywood extension (which looks fine imo) bit nervous about cutting a hole in the roof though! A clever solution, thanks for the idea.

Thanks for the nice comments. Since that conversion we are now completing our third Campervan. Just make sure the roof is re supported with new supporting steels if you do decide to cut the roof. Take a look at our other Nissan Primastar conversion we did on our youtube channel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5yUbLWQyb6snIU.html All good luck with your camper conversion.

Nice job mate! May I ask where you got the seats from? Are you happy with the rotating base plate? And how did you attach the cupboards to the walls? I've bought myself a Trafic a little while ago and looking at a similar project. Cheers, James

Incredible conversion; well done! What was the total cost of the conversion? And which Ikea kitchen unit did you get? - The kitchenette looks very impressive inside the van.

@PremierPaintuk 8 жыл бұрын
+Lee Firman Thanks. The total conversion cost was around £3000 without my own labour. I don't think they do that type of kitchen at Ikea anymore as they have changed there kitchen types, sorry can't remember the ikea kitchen name.

Thanks for all your comments good or bad as it is always good to hear feedback. This conversion was done for a bit of fun really, as I always wanted to do one and wondered if I could. If anyone is ever planning on doing one, a big thing I suggest is plan ahead in everything you do about the conversion as it really helps. Just to let everyone know since I did the conversion back in 2013 I decided to remove the solid roof box and fit a pop up roof. It does look a lot better but the practicality side of storage is now more of a problem but the van is still going strong and I love going away in it for weekends away with the family.

Nice job! If it works for you that's all that matters, there is obviously a lot of skill and effort gone into the conversion! Could you tell me about the cupboards? Are they a kit or is it a kitchen unit conversion? I have just bought a Trafic so I am planning a similar build now.

+Martin Shakeshaft. Thanks for your nice comment. Since converting the van over two years ago I have now fitted a pop up roof rather than the solid box roof. it is less practical but it looks a lot better. To answer your question about the cupboards, they are all from Ikea. They are the top cupboards of the Ikea kitchen as they have a smaller depth than the base units. Thanks

I like that you have tried something a bit different and it was no doubt a cheaper option than the pop top roofs like on a Mazda Bongo. I had an ancient old caravan (to see if we liked the idea of caravan holidays) that I used to take onto site and plenty people would offer friendly advice and comment on them used to having one similar or by the company that made them. People on sites tend to be friendly rather than wanting to slate others since its a bit of community spirit. I have one question about the van. Do you struggle to access the cupboards where the rock n roll bed sits adjacent? Looks like little room for opening the doors but that might just be the angle of the photograph.

+Kevin Bulloch  Thanks for your nice comment. Since converting the van over two years ago. I have now fitted a pop up roof rather than the solid box roof. It is less practical but it looks a lot better. To answer your question about cupboard access when the bed is down, you can only open the cupboards about 40% but still can get things out without a problem. Thanks

+billywilliams williams Like Ibez07 said, it was a old work van so cost nothing and it didn't owe me anything and just wanted to convert one without large costs of having to buy a new van. But a high top vivaro would be a good van to convert.

Thanks for all your comments and thoughts. Its been a year since I did the conversion and the camper van is still going strong and we are very happy with it after taking it away on many trips with my family. I have made a few minor changes since I did the build. I have put the bonnet and front bumper back into pearl white the same as the rest of the van, added a roof vent to the roof box and a few other minor alterations. To answer your comments on the roof box this was a big decision when doing the conversion because the biggest problem you find with a small camper van is room and storage, especially when there are two adults and two kids going away in it. So this is why I opted for the solid roof box and practicality over looks and design it more for our needs, as it gives us a large area of storage in the front of the box for clothes etc and being able to stand up fully when cooking and washing etc.. Also only making it half way across the roof lets me have the external storage box on the roof at the back and this is great as we do a lot of mountain biking and with the uk weather its great for storage of wet gear, external awing etc and this stops from having to keep it in the van and cause damp problems etc. The roof box seems aero dynamic but I haven't had it in a wind tunnel just yet... the mpg doesn't seem to be affected too. The bed is a rock and roll bed and also with the bench seat in the front that turns round we can use this for one of the kids to sleep on if needed. When I did this build at first it was done for a bit of fun and I never thought I would put that much time and effort into it but I am pleased to say where ever I go in it I always get nice comments about it, so I will not please everyone as each to there own, but thanks for all your views and comments and any questions I will try to answer.. Thanks again..

what is the purpose of the roof???
@PremierPaintuk
@PremierPaintuk 8 жыл бұрын
+LJR-ESC UK (Liam Rigby) it was for practicality more than looks, due to being able to store clothes in the front at the top as the biggest problem with a small camper van is space and storage, so I thought it would be better with this type of roof. But since 2013 when I did the conversion I decided to fit a pop up roof about 6 months ago. It does look a lot better but clothes storage is now a problem.
