A good choice of items for the kit for navigation purposes. Not too much and not to little! The fresnel lens was interesting. Never thought of it. As you age seeing the details on a map is toughie! Thanks for the video!

That pack is so huge, it;s like a Santa Claus pack. go camping for 5 or 6 days, and bring toys for the children in the town, lol. It looks awesome, makes me want one. no cramming stuff into a smaller pack not being able to pack it all just easily. The no. 3 just looks like an awesome simple big pack.

I recently broke a Kansbol, while doing some battening. The blade fractured about 2 cm inside the handle. The distributor replaced the knive, which is good as I was shocked at how easily the blade failed. They also advised that battening should only be carried out with a full tang knive.

Hi Mark - Do you still use the bag? Would you say that it is ok for summer usage as well or could I get too hot (well UK hot)? Thanks for the very good video.
@markbailey29813 ай бұрын
Hi saxoncrow, I last used the bag a couple of months ago. I find it ideal for most of the year, but on hot nights I tend to sleep on top of the bag. It can be vented by opening the zip if it is too warm, but overall it is good for all times of the year. They also make a few lighter bags if you are looking for something with a lower temp rating.

I realise that I’m very late to the party, this video being 5 years old already, but I’ve only just found you. I was hooked as soon as you laid out some of your work on that sheet. They looked so lovely! Immediately formed a strong liking for the appearance of it all. Everything looks so beautifully made and somehow it had a kind of warmth to it - the complete opposite to a lot of machine made things which appear cold and soulless. Like the difference between homes made out of cob and thatch and those made out of plasterboard and plastic. Anyhow, I hope I don’t come across as some kind of whack job. I’m not sure I am explaining myself too well here. I feel inspired to have a go myself and you certainly made it sound as if it’s possible. The basic tools are affordable, which is something I was concerned about and you explained everything perfectly. I know that the prices will have changed. I haven’t finished watching this video yet and I’m not sure where to source affordable leather or whether I can find old leather jackets for practice. I will find out. I feel inspired to have a go myself now. I will subscribe as soon as I finish writing this. I just want to say thank you for making this video. I found you because “wood walker 1965” mentioned you in one of his videos. But I can’t get over how beautiful those things are that you made. The colour of the leather, which looks like chestnut and the perfect stitching. I’m looking forward to watching and learning more from you here. I want to pick up tips on how to get started myself. I will have to stop gushing now. Thanks very much for doing this video. All the best, Ian from East Anglia. 👍

Is this universal an odorless version of the original or is that another product?
@markbailey29814 ай бұрын
The other version is the odourless one. The universal has quite a strong smell to it.

That looks far nicer than mine. Mines got a sort of “pebble dashed” finish on the axe head, it makes it look as though it was cast rather than forged. It works well, but looks cheap.

Wait! What? “On my water bottle, I like to use one of these little fire rings..” Well, you let that “little,” gem almost slip by! Where can one buy one of these elusive, “little fire rings?” Because yours looks suspiciously homemade!
@markbailey29815 ай бұрын
Hi olivebranch, yes the ring is homemade. Simple to make but they work well. 👍.

How do you recommend cleaning wooden spoons? Warm soapy water? Obviously not a dishwasher!!
@markbailey29816 ай бұрын
Hi Joe, yes warm soapy water is fine. Deepening on the type of wood that has been used you may need to re coat the spoon after a few washes.

Fyi...instead of measuring all the holes, you can use the calipers. If they are big enough you can mark opposite sides if the bag. With smaller calipers, set the distance between holes and walk it around the circle.

I've carryed mine for 15 years. I live in northern Canada and am hunting, fishing, and exporing the back country pretty much daily. Often the only equipment I have on me is that Farmer... I've even field dressed a few deer with it. Mine was almost confiscated at a hockey game in Edmonton recently, so I switched to a "Hiker", easyer to replace, the spare blade and philips are handy.
