Of course no comments. I don’t think this is as common. I only pushed for 25 minutes and it was an unmedicated birth. I got rectovaginal fistula and they stitched me up and 9 days later was back in the hospital after bleeding out from my rectum and vagina for three days. I couldn’t walk cuz I was so weak. I had an infected hematoma but I believe the docs did something wrong the first time because I gained 16 pounds, hard stomach and looked 9 months pregnant. Couldn’t sit down. Second surgery they fixed weaver they messed up. 8 weeks post operation and my doc checked me out and later on that day the fistula reopened. Not sure if he pressed too hard or what happened. Should I lose hope or do these surgeries ever succeed? They’re saying next surgery should be Marius flap with colostomy for 3-4 months. Currently taking ciprofloxacin and metronidazole for 42 days. My stomach is killing me

At the age of 50, my mom was diagnosed with the rare genetic APC and MUTYH colon cancer FAP genes. She had 500+ polyps and the doctor said that she was a “ticking time bomb.” Her colon was removed and was given one year to live. She fought and beat the odds only to die 37 years later in late 2018! I am number 13 out of 14 siblings. Ten of them have died, thus far, from the same rare genetic colon cancer gene. My sister who is two years older than me and lives in Lafayette, Louisiana (that I am relatively closer to) had her colon removed in 2016. That same year, my VA doctor ordered me to get lab work done at the Ochsner Health Center for Children in New Orleans. Test results eventually came back for having the same health condition. Furthermore, it was also learned that both my sister and I are also “carriers” of this deadly disease. I have “carpet mass legions” of polyps in my lower stomach. Doctors state that it is inevitable that that portion of my stomach will have to be removed. I am also on the borderline of having my colon removed. I have procedures done annually and the most polyps found so far in my colon were roughly 50 of them. Surgical technology has vastly improved over the years.

40 years ago when in my mid 20s I had my entire colon removed due ulcerative colitis, and a couple of years latter a j pouch was formed restoring near normal function. The surgical scar runs from jut below my sternum to the top of my penis. How laparoscopic surgery has changed things. I can’t complain as I had a very good result, and subsequently fathered several children and are now approaching retirement from a life of airline flying.

I had a sigmoid resection for diverticulitis in 2008 after repeated painful attacks. My surgeon told me I lost 4 - 6 inches of my colon, and I'll never miss it! I was 5 hours in surgery. I had an open procedure. Recovery was uneventful; spent 5 days in the hospital until I pooped, then went home! Its a serious surgery, no doubt, but for those facing this, its not as bad as your thinking. You can do it! Almost no pain post-op. Worst part was getting my drain removed!

Absolute impressive surgery. Video was so fascinating. I remember my, in Germany we called it compulsory civilian service, about 40 years ago in the fisceral surgery dept. in our hospital. It was always exciting to have a look into the human body and watch the skills of surgeons and later, of course, patients recover. Was a great time which touched me positive until present. Kind regards from Germany.
