a key take away here is that this is different than using a stove to boil water as the steam and boiling water stay at 212 deg because of the external heat source supplying the energy for evaporation to occur where as in the vacuum we are pulling the heat energy from the outside air.

You should write a book on HVAC if you haven't done so already Ty. You explain the concepts so thoroughly it gives us a greater understanding of what is going on inside an A/C system. This allows us to troubleshoot with better accuracy instead of just making assumptions. Your expertise is greatly appreciated. I enjoy your videos tremendously. Keep them coming!

A year later, I have learned much: the 70' of copper pipe in the well does not have enough recovery. After one hr of running the inlet water temp. is approx. 105'f; outlet is around 118'f. similar to an air to air condenser coil. Unit is still cooling well: suction press= 65 psi; discharge 225. [Need to run it longer for more experience]. A nearby creek has an inexhaustible supply of 82'f water [usually lower]; i may tap into this temperature source in the future. High ambient temperatures call for an ac to run many hrs. This type of experiment calls for curiosity & a passion for learning; hopefully it will save someone else all the work i have put into this project & they will find a more sufficient water supply.🤣 ed c

This information is very well communicated. That being said, it is very painful for the smarter/more informed crowd. Beating a dead horse comes to mind. I got the point 10 minutes ago

While not the most efficient way.....hot gas bypass for the win. That's why I really like the RAWAL DEVICE.....don't need to run an extra line to the evap. It does HGBP and liquid injection all in one device....mounted in the outdoor unit.

Thank you! I don't have a link to those. They have been discontinued and there are aornof great options out there now that I think are better. In the field I use Feipldice probes but they don't give a display on the tool itself.birnother brands do have that.

I have a manufactured home and I believe my coil is leaking. If I go to replace it would you recommend going to sweat lines or go back with these precharged ? And if I have a hex nut at my coil on the high and low side does that necessarily mean I have a precharged line set or are some screw type anyways. It’s a nordyne coil. Thank you.

only thing missing was the appropriate gloves. Thanks for sharing. I went to a HVAC class, and I saw firsthand no pun intended what cold refrigerant can do to your skin. What about finding the leak? Can you please show us in another KZfaq video the (best leak finding tools for the best value) for the job the ones that work for finding the leak so we can then pinpoint it with bubbles.

Science is crazy..my mind wants to believe that as the thermometer absorbs heat, it's temperature will increase but the evaporation makes it drop. Very cool, great video!

I heard a lot if the inexpensive mini-split units also use a single metering device in the outdoor unit and lack a liquid line filter drier? That plus R410a's oil situation doesn't bode well for longevity it feels.

This is sligtly off topic - but I wish they designed the outdoor ecaporator/condenser coil on these things so that it operated like an ice machine. Freezes over and takes a huge energy boost from the 1000+ btu/lb from water vapor to ice phase changes, then defrost without fully melting but by making a pile of ice cubes outside instead of usung the heat to fully remelt it. Just need to make the coil angled away and smooth so that most of the ice doesnt have anything to grab onto. Just a thought.

I don't know what brand it was, but I found one of those fittings leaking on a minisplit system. Tight spot. Original installer didn't want to braze. Leaking refrigerant oil into the insulation. Sure is better than the fire risk. It seems to really want a straight as possible pipe shoved in. I don't know what the success rate on those are.
@highwind8124

So the forward pressure of the copper tube is what creates the seal. That thing that bites down on the pipe, the silver washer, pushes the see-thru plastic piece forward. The two O-rings are squashed by that pressure, narrowing edge-wise while expanding outward and inward. That's the seal. It's dependent on pressure on the O-rings, but the retainer ring mars the surface. It scratches grooves into it as you push it in. Maybe that extra see-thru plastic piece stops those scratched channels from leaking to atmosphere.

Tye, please go back to just yourself on video's. Youve been a major inspiration to so many young techs and have taught so much and ive learned a bunch from you as well and ive been in the trade 27 years. Ive always told our younger techs to watch every single one of your videos as well as 3 or 4 other popular ones that i know youre friends with. But honestly this is not working. And it kills me to tell you this because i respect you so much. This series is taking away from what you were buddy.

I have found some times it’s that the install never made up for lineset length . I always figure it’s a leak but there’s always the chance a longer lineset wasn’t taken into account . Depending on how low obviously takes some into consideration

I'm a sales rep in the commercial HVAC industry, and this video really brought it all together. We do a lot of packed rooftops, but I was having a hard time conceptualizing the refrigeration cycle not as an indoor and outdoor section. Makes sense that they wall off/seperate the two portions. Thanks for everything Ty, have learned a whole lot so far!
