Do you charge all the r12 systems with r12 or a substitution refregarant

I hate to make short videos like this; but the way the YT algorithm works, I need to share a few short ones to keep people engaged. I know you enjoy my long format videos!

Nothing like having a little bit of fun with something that’s too far gone before it goes to scrap or trash😂 man, that thing wasn’t happy at all haha. I got a mid-2010s Lasko box fan off the side of the road two or so months back the motor on it was going out, turned out. It had some shorted windings. I bypassed the fuse and let her rip. I gotta get the video up at some point..

LOL it needed a new capacitor well before this point!

A monster compressor in that little fridge. Unrelated question, how how should a compressor get in normal operation, given that the charge is correct and fans and such are going? You've got me going in to maintain my equipment and my old deep freeze seems to have the compressor too hot to touch, maybe 50C, which seems odd considering the return line is cool. It's proably 70's so I doubt its hot gas discharge on the shell. Unless it uses a crank case heater for outdoor use or something.

You did an amazing job on this! Very impressed. What a fun looking beverage cooler too.. I wish they still made stuff like this.

Very odd to see a Coke cooler thats not in their iconic colors. Belt frive too! That thing must be mega collectable, even if less desirable than the 50's units. I wouldnt even be nad about the samsung conoressor if you haf nothing better and the owner was on a budget. At least it looks like a better older Samsung unit than their modern stuff. But I know you better than that.

I've got no microwave oven, I'm waiting to come across a really lively built ~80's unit. Almost all of my other kitchen appliances are from the 50's besides a few freebies like the instant pot. No teflon coatings, just cast iron, stainless steel, and glass for cookware.. still have my great grandma's skillet from the 40's.

You said it was scrap iron right? Why so? Isn't that just surface rust? And how do we deem a tank unsafe for use? I'm trying to repurpose and empty tank to use as pressure vessel that can possibly hold upto 10 or 15 bar of pressure. Thanks in advance

Will superglue actually be enough though? Will it stay glued on for long enough?

Too bad. As the saying goes: Compressors dont die - they get murdered! Its always something small like a dirty evaporator causing liquid refridgerant to wash away all the oil, overheating due to overloads failing, single phasing of three phase motors, start caps.. list goes on.

Would love to know your thoughts on the different compressor oils.. from my reading arpund, poe is problematic unless everything is done perfect. Mineral oil was much more forgiving - it didn't suck up moisture or turn to acid when it did, didn't strip oxide from the pipes and bring it back to the restriction or pump sump. You use some less common oils in your builds, what're your thoughts on them? I like the prospect of propane and isobutane refrigerants again if they come with mineral oil use again, but they certainly are flammable. Also, good for repurposing this compressor, they dont make them as overbuilt like they used to so its best to save the old ones!

Great video I really appreciate you taking the time to show how to fix the original antenna. Before you fixed it when the motor would just run did it sound just like a clicking noise and also is this kit good for a 1983 Chevrolet Caprice?

What is when the cooler gets cold when the door is open but when the door is closed it doesn’t ? Could this be a thermostat issue
@mikafoxx271711 күн бұрын
Fascinating. Ever think about using an old R12 car AC compressor for a belt drive system to use that old motor you fixed up from the bush? Of course, you'd also need a refrigerator.
@mikafoxx271711 күн бұрын
Awesome! Better you get it than a copper scrapper!

@davida1hiwaaynet11 күн бұрын
Yep, I guess you're right... Technically that's what it is!
@mikafoxx271712 күн бұрын
I was gonna say it probably lasted so long thanks to the mineral oil instead of POE (POS oil imo), but if that was changed out then perhaps not. Seems silly to make an oil that turns to acid when slightly wet - that's why most people like the good old refrigerants, it was the type of oil in the system instead. PAG and PAO are nicer and probably better for longevity.

They made this so that we cannot do DIY and spend more with parts so we will just end up just buying a new one. Business propaganda! 😅
