Retro Toy Guy SI! Dropping a comment here to say hello and hope you didn't get locked in the shame cupboard again! Not too much added to my collection lately but I was excited to find an original H.I.S.S. tank for $1 at a local thrift store last week. It's missing the cannon but I'm still happy to find one in the wild. A buddy had one in the 80's and I always thought it was so evil looking. Anyways, I hope this finds you well!

@@Uncle_GenX Hey mate, wow a H.I.S.S for a dollar! Great find! I bet that felt good when you saw it and I’m guessing that with a bit of EBay searching you’ll be able to find a cannon for it. Thanks for checking in with me, I appreciate the thought 🙏 I’m currently taking a summer break and hope to be back in action in September. I have a Hotwheels vid planned along with The Corps (I found a few vintage figures in a charity shop earlier this year), another A-Team vid (last week I picked up a Hannibal figure so my team is now complete) and I have ideas for a whole bunch of others so ‘stay tuned’. I’ve also been thinking about clipping a few bits of my current vids to make some shorts. Just need to find the time to do it 😅 Stay groovy dude and good luck with the H.I.S.S! 👍😀

@@Retrotoyguysi It was a fun find for sure! Filthy dirty (Like my favourite things in life) but I gave it a good wash and no kidding, the first time I rolled it on the table I made the classic kid "woosh" sound... and quickly looked around to make sure no one noticed! And no pressure to release vids at all! They're very much enjoyed but Summer is fading... I'll stop hitting the refresh button on your page every 30 seconds hoping for new videos like the obsessed super fan I am. Congrats on the Hannibal and other pick ups, can't wait to see them! Ok buddy, have a great one! I'm having a Psychedelic music day and renovating a bathroom - huzzah! :)

If memory serves, the entire figure was comprised of recycled parts (Dial Tone’s gun, Roadblock’s arms, etc), which might explain its bland appearance. Hasbro went cheap on this one

You missed one VERY special car in this catalogue. It never got released and back in the day I went into town every week to hopefully obtain it. It never happened though. Which car I am on about ? It is the Mercedes Magic Top, right next to the "boring" Aston Martin from James Bond. The special feature on the original Mercedes was the retractable roof. Just google "Mercedes Magic Top". And I always wanted to see and know how corgi managed to do it in smaller scale. Sadly it never got released and I have never heared and seen anything afterwards. I even asked well known corgi-collectors without avail...

@@gordonspencer6186 Yes, someone else also commented about the Mercedes that was not produced. Man that must have been frustrating as a kid! In the 81 catalogue they promote a Dan Dare space ship which got its own page, but then they never produced it…. It must have been Corgi’s way of preparing kids for disappointment 😂 Thanks for watching 😀👍

@@Retrotoyguysi It was extremely frustrating to look forward to a product just to find out months later it will never be. Same in 1978: My dad, stationed in Germany with the Rhine Army, wanted to bring me the "FAB 1" from Dinky back, during his tour in Northern Ireland. He came back but without the toy. All the shops apparently had no Dinkys. It took me two decades to find out Dinky closed it's doors in 1978. Those two stories stayed with me ever since, lol. I remember that Dan Dare spaceship, too. Yeah. Those late 70s, early 80s were rubbish for a kid, concerning new toy cars in 1:40-ish scale. The late 60s, early 70s were the best times, looking back at those great models. There were no broken promises either, looking at the brochures. 🥂

@@Retrotoyguysi We had similar brochures of a now defunct toy-shop chain. I say "shop" for a reason because they were within the town centres, here in Germany. Today there is no such thing. It is all happening on the outskirts in large shopping centres. A little story: We moved town, back in 1983 and it was around 1985/86 when we had a school outing into the main town. I knew we had two toy shops and was happy to visit them. But my mate mentioned a THIRD shop. It was hidden behind the town hall. Saw it for the first time, lol. Going inside was like going back in time. Because it was so hidden, it seemed that not many knew about it and the things he still had in the shelves... Airfix and Revell kits from the 1960s, corgi stuff from the 1970s (I bought the large Kojac Buick there) and even boxes and boxes of the rare corgi scorpion(?) race sets. I bought quite a lot, there and still have it all stored away. There are no shops like that anymore. It was sad to see it getting closed and torn down. There are no toy shops in our city centre anymore. It is a town of nearly 140.000 people and MANY kids.... Have a great weekend yourself ! Thanks for taking your time and reading the replys ! 🥂

@@gordonspencer6186 I remember in the late 90's early 2000's I had a job as a service engineer, driving around Kent and south London every day and I discovered a few of those types of shop. One had a ton of old 80's Action Force/GI Joes, all good as new and selling for pennies, but at that time I was only collecting Boba Fett stuff. Kick myself now, of course. I'm now located in the north of the Netherlands and there are hardly any toyshops at all here, and what we have is all Lego, Playmobil, Hot Wheels and Pokemon. Thanks, for the interesting comments, it was to have these kind of interactions that I started my channel in the first place. ☺

I can say with absolute certainty that in 1985, I was no longer into toy cars and even if I was, there was really nothing in that catalog that would have excited me.

@@AllThings80s I was 8 in 85 so was definitely still into toy cars, actually I’m 47 now and still into toy cars 😂 But this catalogue is a disaster, whoever did the lay out should have been sacked, zero excitement for a kid here and as I mentioned, the boxes were boring too, what happened to all the cool art work? I actually found the box for my Aston Martin a couple of years ago in my parents loft and threw it away as it would look terrible in my Bond display. Thanks for watching 😀👍

@@PlayApps2Day I asked a knowledgeable corgi-collector once, about that particular unreleased Mercedes "Convertible". He had many prototypes and such. But he had no clue about the wherabouts of this one, if even a functionable model was ever made. The mechanical design of the retractable roof on the real car was massively complicated and expensive. It, most likely, was too flimsy and delicate for Corgi to produce and would have also been too expensive in the end. But still. I would love to know the truth behind this model. Just search "Mercedes Magic Top" for info on the real car. iirc, they built two or three cars. The conversion being far more expensive than the 500 SEC, itself. 🍻

I love old toy catalogs! The best had cool action dioramas set up. I have to agree, even with your brilliant narration this Corgi catalog is a bit dry... they could have at least hooked the Ferrari up to a truck trailer to haul away all the 1985 "snow" while blasting the Miami Vice soundtrack. It's also nice that the lovely Sandra Bullock popped by to remind us that any Corgi bus must be kept at speeds above 50 mph! Alright, now to start off my day thankful for another Retro Toy Guy Si video, and thankful for Sandra Bullock! :) (P.s' My buddy was a Ferrari mechanic for a few years, he has great stories. One of my favourites was about a fellow who had a classic 60's Ferrari, but grew too fat to get into the car completely so he would show up to the dealer with the door half open and his giant arse hanging out the side... ah to be rich and obese, the dream!)
