Wish someone does some basic intro videos for newbies to get started with Anytype. Seems promising yet overwhelming at the same time...

Just getting started with Anytype and this is the first video I watched. I got so distracted by the type being human and the designation of social relationships, it's a bit eerie no? Could be nice with a different example

Is there anyone in here who could teach me the software? At least walk me through the basics of it? I’d be happy to compensate.

Advantages of Anytype: Speed: Fast performance. UI: Simple and beautiful interface. Potential Productivity Tool: Once proficient, it has the potential to become a productivity tool (not certain). Disadvantages of Anytype: High Learning Curve: Requires professional learning by experts to barely use it. No Folder Concept: The lack of a folder concept feels counterintuitive. Folders are broken into various sources disguised as collections and sets, which are essentially just filters. No File Concept: The file concept is broken into various types, with attributes like page, note, etc., camouflaged to act as file entities. Page Handling: Unable to drag a page into a collection and consequently cannot perform batch operations on all files. This means you can't manage, summarize, or get an overview of all items. You can't even put a simple txt file into it.

I was testing multiple apps to pick one for my personal knowledgement and I really loved Anytype. But right now I can't pick it cause of 2 things: - If an object has backlinks, inside of it we can only show the list of backlinks but not the context around where they were mentioned - We can't exclude some particular objects from the graph like in obsidian I'm sad and hoping these will change later

On the one hand, it's still a bit complicated and not intuitive enough to operate; on the other hand, it's not powerful enough without formulas and Excel-like spreadsheets . I hope it improves , very good job on offline and synchronization

My brain!! ug I just so wanted this to be the answer to my Notion problems but it is so complicated to me. I've been here for 6 hrs since downloading and I just can't get it to click. It would be so nice to have an easy to follow step by step set of videos to learn from that aren't blurry and random haha. I'll try again tomorrow but if I can't make a simple grocery list with headings for each section of the store, and each item moves out to completed, I'm out.

The first thing I did when I understood how AnyType works was 1) delete everything 2) Create Bookshelf hierarchy: Bookshelf: Container of books Book: Container of Topics Topic: A page containing information Example: School --> Math --> Functions Example2: Personal --> Dreams --> Dream1 |--> ToDo --> Today Now, AnyType definitey needs better filtering for the graph view but otherwise I've found this to do everything I need

I'm struggling a little with Lists, and how to make sure every object I add to a list has the right relation. I created the Areas collection. Then I created a new Area called "Coffee" for all my coffee experimentation, tracking recipes for specific beans, etc. So I created a new object type called "Coffee Bean". Then, on the page for my "Coffee" area, I tried creating a new set based on the object "Coffee Bean". I create new objects in the set, and I can see the set of various coffee beans. Fine. But, when I go to the graph view, whatever Coffee Bean objects I added to via the set are just orphaned in the graph. The list itself automatically shows a relation to the Coffee area, but the beans are not related to anything. If you go search all objects and open the individual Coffee Bean items, you have to trace to show that this was created in the Coffee area. I don't see a way to, by default, say that every coffee bean object will be related to the area "Coffee". Do you just have to manually "link" them every time you add a new bean to the set?
@Stan_sprinkle5 ай бұрын
maybe I just figured out a solution: in my custom Template for "Coffee Bean", added a "link to existing object", where I link it to the "My Beans" set that lives on my Coffee area page. I'm happy with it being hardcoded to always link to this list. Not sure if it's the best way, but seems to work

Really appreciate you guys taking your time and sharing such amazing set ups. Loved literally each and every one of them. But since I am in academia myself, I am particularly curious about how Daniel organizes his research. Would love to get a sneak peek at that setup too if you can. Loved the video, even more so because not many people are releasing Anytype videos, not yet. But I can see it growing big in its own unique domain.

IMHO it would be nice to have a less agressive UX/UI. Have a look at capacities. Anytype with the UX/UI of capacities would be great!

Anytype for developers?
@fsagaer6 ай бұрын
Thank you for this great tutorial ! It helps to understand this fabulous and promising software. Just as a personal input, I don't feel helpful for me to create types "Project", "Area" or "Ressource". I prefer to work with sub-collections instead of Types. In example, to have a sub-collections "My project XYZ" linked to my main collection "PROJECTS" or "Finance education" sub-collection linked to my main collection "AREAS" and so on (maybe I'll change my mind in the future as I imrove my understanding of Anytype). For the Archives, I love the idea of a set filtered on a the Tag "Archive" :)
@Anytype5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching all the way through! In testing this method more it ultimately did end up being more helpful to mainly rely on collections (rather than Types); their flexibility was much more useful in this case.
