Great reviews! I completely understand about a book hitting the *squick* factor. I'm reading a lot of danmei right now and while some it pushes the line, it's still been with full consent and nothing that really gets me. Honestly, most of them are great and are just those kind of stories that really stick with you. Buuuut...Lol, there is one recommended book with a good following that I just can't get past the first several chapters. Someday I might try again, but whoo-boy, it's probably gonna be awhile.

I think it's ment to be more of a slice of life than anything else; it's about the characters, not their world. It can afford a little bit of fantasy

I feel like there needed to be a supernatural element to it to pull together the gothic feel. That would’ve eliminated the need for the off the rails scooby doo reveals.

If you do I would skip book 1. Book 1 was hard. The author shows us some horrors aboard the ship prior to them getting on the ice planet that was almost too much for me.

Also, friends have pointed out there are consent issues. I wasnt bothered by them because its more like a cultural misunderstanding but if that might bother you then these may not be a good fit. But I love them.

@@janenightreadsandwrites223 I appreciate the warnings so much. It’s very thoughtful of you to include. I think my biggest problem would be the focus on childbearing as a happy ending. I understand the significance for the barbarians but it still is what would put me off.

I’m right there with you on the opinion that “rich man saves love” trope is not great. There’s a power dynamic in what you described that makes me feel very uncomfortable. That said, I am very happy to see more gay romances that don’t focus on toxic family drama. Loved your review.

The Poirot TV series served as my introduction to Agatha Christie's incredibly inventive and compelling books. While I do like the small screen adaptations, there is the sense that they had to cut down on the list of characters in the TV movies for budgetary reasons; in "Peril at End House" the absence of Freddie's husband, and Maggie's parents were very notable omissions.

Thats totally fair. I think books amd movies are such different mediums due to acceptable lengths that it would be hard to ever fully encompass one successfully from the other.

"She thinks Aunty Rose didn't deserve to die. ROSE shot ponies on the way here. ROSE only liked to help people and animals if helping them was easy. ROSE only ever did good things to make herself feel less bad. ROSE let Lily and Connor throw YOU over a cliff..."

I understand what you are saying but the shooting a pony is part of her job as a veterinarian and, unfortunately, is often an act of mercy. Kids brains don't develop fully until around 25 and I think that undeveloped brains was a bigger issue for the killers than malice. They were scared. They made a huge and terrible mistake but had they been arrested they wouldn't have met criteria in any state that I am aware of for capital punishment.

I just finished this excellent book 📖. The afterlife of Holly Chase should get a 5/5 rating. I agree the beginning is kinda slow but as the book 📖 goes on you get hooked and it a real tear 😢 dripper. Movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 worthy. I would love ❤ to see this twist on The Christmas 🎄 Carol bought to screen during Christmas time. The romance of Holly and Ethan Winters was a very important part of the story excellent story. Excellent job with your book 📖 review video 📹 👏 Wishes for the best to you take care.
