No wrench sizes no torque specs and doesn't show actually doing the job. What a momo
@twinsmotogarage1866

@@travisduckoff3669At the time of posting there was only one other sportster starter replacement video on KZfaq. The video is meant to give an idea of what the job entails. If you have basic skills, you can take it from there. It’s not meant to replace the service manual. I don’t trust getting torque specs from a single KZfaq video and therefore I usually don’t post them to encourage others to do their own research. If wrench sizes are holding you back I’d recommend you take the bike to a competent mechanic.

the extension reduces torque needed (effort) thanks to longer lever distance, but the disengagement is less for the same clutch lever distance. If very precisely tuned those clutch extensions disengage easier but over a longer clutch actuation distance. some riders prefer shorter response others the long clutch move. And the probability to be out of tune is more critical.

Fit std levers and new clutch cable,could be stretching and the levers might not be giving enough pull

Don't use the cheap pos Amazon belt. Spend the extra cash and get as close to OEM as you can.

Yeah that would be ideal but the Amazon one was a third of the price and arrived basically next day. We put 1000 miles on it with no issue.

Learned it on an early model sportster. Didn’t even have a Dremel at the time. Used a drill to slowly shave the high spot. I saw one of your videos and remembered I could do that.

I noticed when changing mine that every other oil line and fuel line on the harley is a reinforced, good quality hose and yet the oil drain line is a cheap, thin, and a plastic feeling hose. Someone recommended that the next leak I get from that drain line to replace it with a reinforced fuel line. He also said that the oil line part from harley is a 5/8 inch at the tank and the size on the other end is smaller but he said to use a fuel line of a size that splits the difference and it will fit on the tank and the oil plug will fit also. Just a suggestion if you keep getting these leaks.
@twinsmotogarage1866
@twinsmotogarage1866 2 күн бұрын
I would not use a fuel hose for an oil line. Transmission hose which is rated for heat and oil would be better but is usually not as readily available at auto stores as fuel hose. I would just stick with OE which is pre-bent and specifically made for the application. It’s not expensive and lasts a decent amount of time.

After adjusting your clutch Check the shift rod that goes from your foot shifter to the transmission to make sure the Transmission tongs are in the correct position (According to the manual). Sometimes I've had to screw the shift rod adjustment a little to match what the manual specifies which makes hitting neutral much easer

Had an issue with one of the collars on the threaded shaft coming loose. That allowed the treads to come out too far and eventually they stripped. While it was out of warranty black widow sent me a replacement free of charge. I think it could have been user error. To get the jack as low as possible I would make sure I really bottomed it out but in doing so I think I was knocking the collars loose. With the replacement I am careful to make sure the collars are tight and also stop turning the shaft as soon as the jack is at its lowest setting. No problems since.

So this is a ridiculous question but where does the hot wire hooked to the starter go? Because this sportster I just picked up has another one that goes to the harness and the one on the starter. Do they go on the same battery terminal or what?
@twinsmotogarage1866
@twinsmotogarage1866 3 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly there is a big wire that goes directly from the battery or main harness to the solenoid. There is a small trigger wire that goes from the relay to the solenoid.
