Fantastic footage. Who cares about anything else when you have tiny glass bodied Xenomorphs in your local pond?

We have this happening under our deck right now. 😢 Our pheobes had 4 eggs and a cowbird came and dropped 2 more in the nest. The cowbirds hatched and are HUGE and taking over the nest. Idk if the Pheobe eggs are ok, and the parents have to be exhausted! It breaks our hearts to watch. Praying the next brood is just their eggs.

“It is hard to characterize the gait of an entire family of insects, but to us, the locomotion of velvet ants resembles that of a sleep-deprived parent who is already 15 minutes late to an important appointment (months in the making), searching for their car keys on a LEGO-strewn surface."😂 ~ Princeton field guide to Velvet ants

Do you know if these guys eat pond snails? Because I have a few dragonflies in my pond and I m always concerned that they do not have enough to eat.

I've never seen them eat pond snails. They mostly eat cladocera and ostracods. You should have plenty of them as long as there is vegetation in your pond. You can check with a microscope.

Life as an aphid sucks. You are either sucking green juice out of a plant (and you know how ignorantly unstable that makes vegan hipsters) --or something crawls up , spears you and suck out your innards while you wave your hands in the air.

I collected a jar of pond water and detritus so I could look at all the little organisms living in it. I was wondering what these were and why some had the little Y shapes on their tails. Up close like this, they definitely look like eggs! Glad to see more and more of them over time have these egg sacks 🤗
