The fact that people obey these old regulations blindly despite the animals obviously wanting affection is depressing. No additional sealsa re going to get hurt if you give it a few belly rubs. Maybe YOU might if you misjudge what it wants, or it might be sad if leave for home, but it still seems worth it. But then, I assume anyone working in Antarctica is a stooge of some kind.
