The vast majority of these signs are common to all European countries. I live in Belgium, and we do have most of these signs.

Thank you for this but are there really no signs indicating a glacier or a vulcano? I would have certainly bought such a sign at the first souvenir store. 😉

That's because glaciers and volcanoes are not near roads usually.

Hi guys, hope you are doing fine, wanted ro know your thoughts on what kind of vehicle is suitable for an October trip this year ( 20th - 31st oct to be precise? We plan to do the entire ring road, will a small city car ( like toyota yaris) suffice or we should go for an suv ( like mitsubishi eclipse cross) ?

Why is Premium recommended, rather than Platinum? Is it just the jump in expense for the platinum? I may be over worried about Iceland and rental cars but I actually am adding on rental insurance onto our travel insurance policy...and was still planning to get the Platinum. I'm not big on risk.

They are tourist trap and rip you off. They will find a reason to charge you arbitrary. The worst experience.

I have been to Iceland 8 times and some signs you missed. Rest area signs. There is one with an outhouse on it. You missed the dead end sign. One sign that I use a lot is the sign that tells you about what in is in the area you are going to see. These are large signs with maps and info. There is the info sign. The 4x4 sign the tells you that you need a 4 wheel drive car. The sign that tells you that there are river to cross on the road. These are all that I can think of at this time. Thank you Ben

The best advice is to simply avoid Icerental 4x4. Upon returning a car, an agent pointed out a very small hairline scratch less than 2cm that almost not visible and charged us the maximum deductible amount of 800 USD.

Since Icerental 4x4 always 'find a new scratch' you better get the best insurance they've got if you don't want to pay like 1000 euros. You are low life scumbags and a shame of Iceland.

can you camp in the highlands with this? I thought it was compulsory to stay on campsites.

My husband and I will actually be in Iceland September 1-2, 2022, for a 36 hour layover and we are renting a car so that we can easily get outside of Reykjavik to explore the Golden Circle in our short time in your country.

Hi thanks for the information. 1)I was wondering, is it a requirement to show your CREDIT CARD when collecting a car in Iceland. The issue is i only have a DEBIT CARD & am not eligible to get a CREDIT CARD. i can pay with the DEBIT card, but rental company wants a CREDIT CARD upon collecting the car 2) Are there any alternatives instead of CREDIT CARD Thanks

Hi Muhammad, It will depend on the company you will rent from. Most companies do require a credit card when picking up the vehicle. @@icerental4x4 Oh okay. So if i book a vehicle through your company during say the coming August & I take out the premium car insurance that includes; SCDW. Then in this case can i pay with my DEBIT CARD & collect vehicle without providing a CREDIT CARD

I made the mistake of booking the flight and car rental at the international airport, which is a full half hour to Reykjavík. Instead, I took a cab which was better due to jet lag, and I picked up a car at Reykjavík City Airport the next day. The cab was $150 USD though.
