GS's SBGT241 is a dial, a blue second hand, the supleness of the rice bracelet, 5 stars in gold, a gold medal on the back, design, function, and a very beautiful and attractive watch.

Thanks for sharing this trip down memory lane… I’ve owned several and luckily still own my trusty 41CX and 42s. Nothing comes close to the old craftsmanship exuded by those HP calculators. I also dabbled with synthetic programming, bought the CCD module (from Germany if I remember correctly) and some other more exotic add-ons. I also still have my 71B with the Forth/Assembler module; still in excellent nick. Reading up on RPN also made me discover Forth; I still think Forth is, in addition to Smalltalk, one of the most elegant programming languages in existence. I’ve used TI calculators, Casios and others, but after getting introduced to RPN (on a 34C, in the early 80’s), I’ve never used anything else but RPN. I’ve been using iPhones for the last ten years or so and the very first thing I do is install the Free42s app for everyday calculations. Perhaps a bit strange, but I always thought HP calculators, the manuals that came with them and all accessories had a long-lasting, particular smell about them. I loved (and miss!) that smell. Thanks again!

Thank you for pointing out the "GS9F" motif in the design (and that real Easter egg "9F25")! I never noticed that before.

I bought my black-blue in 1976. It cost $95. It still looks great and runs superbly, as yours does. It has had a crystal replacement, but the rest is original. I also have a Seiko Turtle Diver from 1982. Another original Seiko beauty with only a black rubber band replacement (it broke last week!). With retirement, I no longer carry a watch. So the Bullhead goes to my son and the Turtle goes to my grandson. Thanks for the video.

I saw the news about HP-35 in February 1972, probably in the HP Journal. In April, I ordered mine and received it in July. In relation to my two slide rules (6 inch pocket and 12 inc desk versions), the’35 could not be used for drafting straight lines with pencil, but otherwise it did everything a young engineer needed. Later on, I bought the HP-67 (which by the way had a desk top “brother”, HP-97, compatible and capable of using same magnetic program cards). Soon after, our secretary/receptionist needed to do something that the ‘35 was able to do, and I donated my by then superfluous ‘35 to her. Later on, I have had several other HP calculators, as ‘11, ‘15, ‘16 and ‘42S. These, plus the ‘67 I still have! I also have HP-15S emulator program on my Android phone, iPad Mini and Macbook Pro. My iPad Mini has additionally an HP-67 emulator program. I also have a 12 inch Engineering Slide Rule within reach on top of my desktop PC. I grab that, if I need to do a little more precision calculations than what I care to do in my head. Yes, I inherited a fairly good ability for mental math from my father. One special item you did not mention was the infrared link to a thermal printer on the ‘67. I have two of those printers. I bought them several years ago as “new old stock”. Thanks for the memories!

I'm lucky to have black face version. Just wanted to know if it would cause damage or additional wear to let the chrono constantly run? I do prefer it with sweep of the chrono running but I would rather preserve the life of the watch. Thanks.

I'm a designer of over 50 years experience in the oil and gas industry - offshore subsea. I own 3 HP41s, 67 and 97 all working except card the readers and I'm still using them to this day. It's a pity someone hasn't made an SD card interface to plug into the expansion slot of the HP 41CX. That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video.

I think the pinnacle of usability is the 15C. This is from my informal collection of a 28C, 41CV, 48 and the re-released 35S a few years back. I've had the 15C for 40 years now. It's still on my office desktop.

when I went to work for Climax Molybdenum Co they supplied me with an HP35. It died so they had me order my choice of the lower end ones so I got a 25c. I loved it but not as much as my bosses HP55. It had the timer function. Later in life I used a 15c and a 32c. Retired now I use a 25c emulator on my phone and a 55 emulator on my laptop and desktop.....once you go RPN you hate the other way....

Great watch - I've got the later 6217-7010. Mine is a black dial version from 1967 which was the last year before Chicago was changed to Mexico City due to a new Olympic Games competition in 1968 in Mexico. I love looking at it, it's really a beautiful watch. I've never seen a white linen version in person but it looks much more legible than mine! The darker dial makes my bronze-colored 24hr hand pretty tough to locate, and the cities require a bit of squinting on their dark background as well. Now if only I could locate an original beads-of-rice bracelet for it!

Beautiful watch that I almost purchased. My hesitation? What are the very potential problems for servicing that spring drive in the future? I also have an issue with that unattractive unattractive minute track, it ruins the beauty of the dial. I opted instead for the sbgm221 which is stunning in my opinion.

I don't see any difference morally between this and buying a Chinese fake Rolex (which can vary in quality and price). At the end of the day it says Oris on the dial and the watches are nothing to do with Oris. It's a fake the same as any other. Value isn't there when you can get a new 2813 automatic movement for a lower price, and thats a nicer movement.

I bought this watch when it first came out many years ago. Still has it. IMHO, I think the finishing of the the watch is superb. The way light bounced off the bracelet and the case is quite outstanding. Except the dial. GS has the most remarkable dial designs but not this one. This one is a plain Jane. The legibility is very good though. No distraction, just a good old black matte dial. The sizing can be challenging without micro adjustment. Luckily it came with enough half links and the link removal process is not too difficult. I do feel the watch is a little top heavy though. I could feel every mm of this 12mm case. For its size, this is quite heavy.

I have a 1964 Seamaster De Ville, very similar but with date function. It is also in a similar original condition to this one, including the hands no longer being luminescent but the hour markers on the dial somewhat surprisingly still retaining a very faint luminescence. It runs very well and is a very pretty dress watch.

Nice video! I have worn my Seiko Pogue (US version) since June 1976 when my parents gave it to me as a 8th grade graduation gift. I was 14 at the time, and today I am 62, and still wearing the same Seiko everyday. I recently got it serviced (look for the service video on the Blair Watch Channel), and the case and dial are still mint. One of my most priced procession.

Neat journey. My favourite is the HP-45 due to the undocumented and horrendously unreliable timer function.

@keithmclean3627 Жыл бұрын
Agree, ive been learning on these old fhf96 movements and they're a great but of fun for the tinkerer. When you do get one to run, wear it with the knowledge that you put every part together, that alone is worth the price. If you want an accurate watch, buy a casio. Best video on this subject ive seen yet! Well said sir.
