How come Brazil didn't start to appear on the list until the 80s? Brazil's murder rate has been high to very high since the 60s and how come Jamaica didn't appear on the list until the 90s? Jamaica's murder rate has been high to very high since the 70s.

Even as far back as the 50s Colombia and Mexico have had high to very high murder rates. Colombia and Mexico have always been very violent and dangerous.

For those wondering why certain countries that went through conflicts are not on the list, keep in mind that the murder rate of countries doesn't include "wars". It only includes homicides and personal murders. Adding war casualties would be a very wrong way to evaluate the local violence in the country.

I think that in the United States, if you look at the murder rates of the various ethnic groups they will correspond to the country of origin. Alcohol seems to be a big factor in those Hispanic populations with (American)Indian blood. BTW, I am Hispanic.
