The song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was recently discovered among my archive of vintage audio hand-held cassette recordings and vinyl records. It's presented here as a rare transcribed digitized recording "as is". The event was a LIVE benefit concert in support of The great Shaw High School Marching Band in Washington D.C. in support of their Citywide efforts to raise funds to perform in the Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Other artists participating in the concert included :Dr. Donald Byrd's Blackbyrds and legendary Doo Wop singers, the pride of Baltimore,the late great Sonny Til and The Orioles.A memory worthy of sharing. This is a good song Dennis. So relateable and I knew Charlie Pride when I lived in Dallas. He came into a club called Papillion's where I had a steady singing job for years. I even bought some speakers he had made for his new house but when they tried to fit them in, they didn't fit so back to to the store they went and I bought them, They even came to New York with me. Then I sold them to Tony Hewitt and I bet he is still using them and probably don't remember their history.

Wow, great story! My college classmate a guitar player from Cleveland, a friend of greg Bandy's as well, the late Frank "Silk Smith, and I gigged in a band in Nashville and hustled gigs on Music Row in Nashville where we did demos to be pitched to established artists like Charlie Pride,Ricky Nelson, Conway Twitty, and Joe Tex and other signed mostly country artists. We were still students at Fisk and were gigging and knocking on studio doors along Music Row beating the pavements getting work at Columbia Screen Gems , Mercury records, Capitol and Ray Stevens label . Stevens had a ton of hits, mostly novelty songs like "The Streak"; "Ahab the Arab",(which was banned on radio) and rightfully so, "Along Came Jones!" and a great ballad "Everything is Beautiful." Ray really liked a few of my songs and wanted to sign me but the contract called for me to change my name to Travis Womack before there ever was a Travis Womack Country star band. I was not legally an adult when my parents balked at the idea of signing Ray's Agreement which involved tours and leaving University to pursue doing one night stands around the country. I finished a version of my song I'll Go it Alone and added verses years later after a few more "heartbreaks" before recording it. I bet those are some great Speakers!Thanks for sharing that great story. If Charle Pride had recorded any of my songs I'd be set! LOL

The incomparable voice of Mrs. Irene Day leaves an indelible etching in my very soul - one which I cling to and will carry into eternity. I am honored to have personally known Mrs. Day; and not simply know her as a friend, but as a mentor and a guiding light helping to lead me closer to Christ Jesus. Being in her presence generated a transference of spirits so electrifying, I am convinced that these times of our connecting were divinely orchestrated for Kingdom purposes. I LOVE Mrs. Irene day - then and now, because the separation is only temporary.

Love bell, but let's also remember that some POC have naturally straight hair, e.g. Somalian and Eritrean women.
@uglymother946 жыл бұрын
it would seem ur missing some nuance in this comment, its not that theres only one type of hair for black people, but rather there is a historical devaluation of particularly common types of hair for black people, in relation to hair characteristics which are typically associated with whiteness. the black people who have straighter hair also experience a different type of privilege because of this
@asmrcity31473 жыл бұрын
That wasn’t Quite the point here. The focus was on the aesthetic of dark skin and non-straight hair textures deemed as unattractive, undesirable and lower class.
