To complement my previous comment, I would add that in my opinion this century has great artists (Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Marron 5, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Adele, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga , Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Amy Winehouse, Green Day and a few others). However, the amount of "musical trash" of recent years has never reached such worrying levels of mediocrity.

This list is indeed a "real" list, which includes everything that matters: sales of physical and digital singles and albums of all time. Practically all the truly great artists are present here. Only 13 artists over 200 million, all of them synonymous with great musical quality. Compared to this, the vast majority (90% or more) of the artists that appear in the multiple lists that only include Spotify streameds, in which only artists (sure they're really artists?) from recent years appear, do not even appear here in this top 100. And if it was a top 200 or top 300, they wouldn't appear either.

The RIAA is useless and that is what these "sales" numbers are based on. A real comparison is looking at what an artist did in the length of their career while they were alive. I have cut down the years on Elvis and the Beatles because they obvious reign supreme and it should be a more Apples to Apples relationship (although Elvis never toured outside the United States and was in the army for 2 years of his prime) If you extend Elvis and The Beatles to current years they whoop everyone so bad it isn't even funny. The facts are that so much sales counting ahave been lost through the years and Bing Crosby truly got the shaft the worst.
