Is there a formula for determining the size of the scanning mat? While the table you show with example sizes is helpful, it would be great to know if there was a more precise formula for calculating the perfect size and maintain scale. Eg: 3.5inch sq/ per 1inch of height (and also metric sizes!). Thanks

Hi Julio, unfortunately concave surfaces like a dish do not scan well. We generally suggest avoiding them. Sorry!

I also see some 3 d objects (animals and people) that appear to be walking. Was this done through Qlone, or some other program. How about a video about moving 3d objects.
@sharedspaces4817
@sharedspaces4817 3 жыл бұрын
Hi roams, the moving dolphin models at the 1:50 time stamp were two separate 3D scans exported from Qlone as images (the png sequence option). These pngs were then placed into video editing software to combine them in one frame.

Is there a way to scan a tall skinny object? I have one that is 16" tall, and 2" x 2" base.
@sharedspaces4817
@sharedspaces4817 3 жыл бұрын
Generally it will be quite difficult. You would need to use quite a large scanning mat and then you may lose detail on the object

There is also a video that shows using a second scanning mat behind the flat one. That is one that is a backdrop behind the shape. I don't see any explanation of how or if, this adds any value. How far away should it be, does it need to have the same scale as the flat mat?
@sharedspaces4817
@sharedspaces4817 3 жыл бұрын
Hi ronams, we have not found a use fo the backdrop scanning mat. Shared Spaces is not affiliated with Qlone but we would suggest reaching out to them directly to inquire about this question!

Is there any value / advantage when scaling up, to actually recreate the scan pattern to have more squares. E.g. Add more squares per inch as you scale up. Since it's a very symmetrical drawing, it would seem possible to add squares. Would that enhance or mess up the scan?
@sharedspaces4817
@sharedspaces4817 3 жыл бұрын
Hi ronams, we have tried scaling up the scanning mat as is (without adding in extra squares per inch) to a maximum of 25.5 x 25.5 inches; this allows us to scan much larger objects, the largest object was ~14 inches tall. We would guess that the number of squares needs to stay the same so the camera can recognize it as the scanning mat, but if you do happen to test out adding more squares per inch, let us know the outcome!

Thank you for this. The videos on Qlone's YT channel had very little explanation, just showed someone editing an object. This is much easier to follow.
