Would you think COPs could replace Nuke with Houdini in the future?

There are quite some interesting features in COPS in terms of compositing, but it's nowhere close to Nuke in terms of the sheer amount of control it offers. SideFX stated that it's useful for stylized effects (which is really cool), and some slap comps to test things out. We'll see what the next years will look like, but I just kinda doubt it's ever going to replace Nuke

so all the bottom iterations are done in houdini, but mixed together in nuke?

Yep, exactly. All the bottomo layers are separate layers, each with own unique AOV passes (reflection,emission). This is how we can balance all elements

Hey Rez, this is a shot in the dark but I figured I'll ask. Any plans on creating a course which utilises a live action actor in front of a green screen, and integrates it with CG? So far your stuff has 3D models, but when I first set out to do this stuff my desire was to do all the stuff you're doing especially in this video but with live actors. Even if it's one course, in the next year or two, would be interesting to see. I'm kind of taking a backseat from CG for the time being, but I'd consider taking such a course if you ever happen to make one. Great to see high quality stuff nonetheless! Best Dejen

It's really the absolute best combo. I would feel extremely crippled delivering any work without sprucing it up in Nuke a lil bit. Although in this particular course we spruce things up A LOT

Hey there I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. It's more geared towards intermediates. Take a look first at the Beginner section on my website and start there. There's also some free courses that you can enroll which will give you a good idea on the level required

Hey do you know a way to render Geo light as sepperat light AOV?

You have to disable all your lights except the Geo light, then add one light ( any kind of light ) and set that one to 0. So its essentially just one light set to 0 intensity, and your Geo light, and this should now only render the contribution from the Geo light

Been trying with merge and copy ect. But doesn't work,only if I run out another layer with everything in it and make a P matte from that?

@@wewantmoreparty You would have to render it as one layer from the start. Generally, for passes like Position, depth, normals, etc. you will have a bad time trying to combine different imports together. Best thing to do is make a render that has both objects that you need in it.

Hey man, your FX are AMAZING! I just want to start studying but sometimes I’m scared cause of too much software to master…but I have a question. I always watch your fx tutorials and creation but I think I’ve never seen all these amazing effects in a live action scene but just with 3d models/characters. I would love to insert these amazing effects on a live action scene (even with the clothes movement, if this is possible). How can you do this? How can you create an effect that perfectly match with a live action scene? How to create all this togheter and in a realistic way? Thank u!!!

Hi! You would need some extra software for this. Look Into KeenTools for Nuke, that will give you an idea on how the process works :)
