Whenever he sings with anyone else, he tones it down,so as not to drown them out.

Love her. IMO she is this generation's Alice Cooper. Both raised conservatively in the Midwest leading to embracing an intentionally shocking persona, moved to LA, failed with music unlike them and then found their hilarious style jumping anthemic groove instantly with a producer they were assigned to.

Even though this is a powerful anthem it still manages to bring forth tears. If we can do only one thing to help this world is "dont sit silence"

Must've been a shock to discover Chisel has TWO lead singers and this song just happened to have the guitarist in that role. I find Mossy easier on the ear, anyway.

They couldn't fit him into one of their slots. Got him a couple of gigs in a small jazz club, where they introduced him as Jack Phantom and gave his song to someone else. He decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Watch him on the Jamie Redfern concert, early 70s . You will be stunned. Its all there. The audience participation, the humour, the energy, the voice.

What I LOVE about this --the song is about laying awake at alone at night woth crippling anxiety. The choir adds a chorus of fellow travelers, all struggling with the same invasive thoughts. It's still every bit as melancholy -- but with a comforting undercurrent of solidarity. Absolutely beautiful.

This was their first big hit and quite controversial at the time . They went on the be the biggest band in the world at one time . There was an award show where they presented Oasis with an award and that idiot Gallagher called them has beens . Michael then went back to the studio and re recorded the lyrics of Elegantly wasted to Better than Oasis . I know who people will still be listening to in another 50 years .

They went to the US but got the short end of the stick so they came home and wrote "You got nothing I want" to stick it up them (the US music scene). The US missed out badly. They're ours anyway.

I thought this reaction was really good at identifying one of the qualities that separated Michael Hutchence from other highly-regarded frontmen (although I’ll quibble with the ‘not magnetic’ descriptor). Many energetic frontmen have a sort of spastic (or, “bag full of cocaine”, if you will) quality to their onstage movements. Freddy Mercury is a great example. Michael’s style was more fluid and (to me, at least) organic. Some singers charge the stage. Others parade on it. Michael seemed to, I don’t know if ‘slither’ is the right word, or maybe ‘glide’. Not that one style is better than another. It all comes down to preference. But, if that particular style is what you like, no one did it better than Michael Hutchence.

Fair quibble! What I don't think I expressed properly in my frenzy is that Hutchence (can I call him Hutch?) was so much more SMOOTH than the hard rock of the instrumentalists--which was a very, very winning combination in my mind. Hutchence didn't have "LOOK AT ME!" energy, and very wisely didn't try to gin that up to match the rest of the band. I liked the mysterious tight pantsedness in contrast with the big ball of energy.

INXS were one of the best live bands in the world at this time. Musician magazine said they were: "the best live band in the world." This is one of their older songs and the essence of their early sound. Michael Hutchence oozes charisma and sex appeal. The whole band is tight af and jammed their butts off all concert. You really need to check out What You Need from this show or New Sensation see them in full flight! I loved your reaction!
