How do you think the cards of the 1940's did at the National do you think more collectors were looking at them in show cases or more were buying or do you think it was 50% the same some looked and some purchased? which cards of the 40's do you think sold the most at the National?

I'm surprised that Moe Berg is number 10 and Dizzy Dean and Lefty Grove are above 10? is Moe more popular with collectors that they know him but I don't? I like the Jimmy Fox , wow 37 cards graded a 7 and this is the 1933 set that's amazing 37 cards graded a 7 say in 1956 isn'a surprise but for 1933 it's great news I guess you can say!!! for the 2nd Jimmy Fox card number 8 does 99 cards grading a 4 surprise you? this was way before supplys before Beckett , before Baseball price guides? it's only 1 grade above the player grade but it's 1933? any surprise here? wow for Lou Gehrig 4 graded 200 copies , 5 112 , 5 in a 9 and 1 in a 10 this is 1933 though!!!! so which card do you think is king in the hobby 1933 Ruth or the 1952 Mantle 311? which card would you rather have Ruth in a 3 card 53 or the 52 Mantle in a 5?

Thanks for compiling and sharing, John. Comments: Mickey Mantle dominated the 50s. Surprised at the Frank House. Lot of Mantle cards for the 60s and the unexpected top ten card of Roman Mejias 1960. Lot of surprised cards that made the 70s list: 72 Phil Niekro, Carlton Fisk 73 Kellogg, Old Time Josh Gibson 74 and 71 George Stone. Thinking why the Stone did was gem mint and hard to get 71s in that condition. This is what makes these lists interesting with surprises and variety instead of the same ones month after month.

Thanks for sharing and compiling the card list and background of Goudey, John. My favorite of the Ruth cards would be number three. No surprise that the Lajoie would be number one due to the rarity status of the card. Nice variety of cards that made the list. Some collectors must have lots of disposable income to afford some of the cards, especially the Ruth’s and Gehrig’s.

Glad you enjoyed it Kevin. Yes, there are collectors out there with much deeper pockets than I do. It's hard to imagine having enough money to be able to buy some of those really high end cards. Some of those vintage cards cost more than my house! LOL

Well, John, that is one hell of a way to reacquire the card! Screaming gorgeous!🔥🔥🔥 51/100!!!🤯🤯🤯 I know the next 49 will be much tougher, with some, maybe even being out of reach. Hey John just stumbled on your video because I just opened a box from Walmart 2022 and it was gold stars as well. What is the gold star limited to 299? Trying to figure that out. And is there a value to that box? I appreciate your feedback thank you!

Cool! Congrats. The gold star sets are not numbered. Not sure what they are limited to. The gold star sets are selling between $70-$100 on eBay. I think the regular sets are selling for $50-$60.

Super nice/clean copy of the Bench R/C. You should always be a bit flexible when you have a plan for the National, and getting that card on the first day was a smart move. As for the other Bench cards, well, those are some of my favorites too.

Beautifully centered Bench. So you have 49 cards to go and roughly $90K you can spend? Of course, the big-ticket cards on your list will consume that pretty quickly. I too sold most of my HOF rookie cards around 2005-06, for a different reason, and I came to regret it just on a financial basis. For example, 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige, both PSA 6, and 1951 Bowman Mantle PSA 7(oc) and Mays PSA 6. I had bought these and many other HOF rookies in the 1990s, and today I could sell some of them for 10X what I paid, indeed 10X what I sold them for. Some of them I will never own again, such as the ones just named. They are out of my reach now, unless as PSA 1 or 2. I never owned the 1952 Topps number 311. That was out of my reach even back then.
@WadeBoggsFan
@WadeBoggsFan 4 күн бұрын
Thanks. Well, I don't actually have $90K sitting around to spend on cards. So whatever I buy I have to save up for. That's why some of the bigger cards on the list I may never own. But there's nothing wrong with having dreams. 😀 Yeah, it's pretty amazing what you could have bought some of those cards for 20-30 years ago compared to now. I know some guys who have amazing cards, and many of them were purchased years ago and if they hadn't, they probably would not be able to afford them today.

A very sweet card 1973!!!! 1977 is nice, 1975 is also nice , 1978 is very nice , 1979 very cool , Now to answer your question The Nolan Ryans I don't like are from 1982 and up To me Nolan Ryan is a 70's pitcher seeing cards of him in 1983, 1984 and up also 1982 doesn't grab me. When I think of 1982, 1983 and 1984 I think of Mattingly, Henderson, Boggs, Gwynn, Ripken ect I don't think of Schmidt, Nettles, Ryan ect.

While I'd like to say that including the 1955 Topps Willie Mays card in the list was a test to make sure you were paying attention, it was a simple brain fart on my end. Sometimes my eBay search includes cards from different decades depending on how the card is listed, and I didn't pay attention this time when I put the list together. 😬
