Got to watch "Boksi Ko Ghar." My options were either to stay silent or express my opinion. I generally prefer to stay silent for Nepali movies if they're not up to par because, at the end of the day, we're all content creators and every piece of content requires effort. But for "Boksi Ko Ghar," I couldn't resist sharing my thoughts because, to me, it was more than just a movie; I admired the fact that someone chose to tackle a sociocultural topic. I must admit, the movie held my attention till the end. It's probably one of those Nepali movies where I didn't get goosebumps from the dialogues because everything felt so natural and realistic. The movie even gave me a sense of nostalgia, as if I were watching "Ujeli." I believe it's the first time in Nepali movie history where storytelling wasn't in chronological order but rather back and forth between past and present, and I loved it. One more thing that made me smile was... Generally, Nepali movies feel like they're filmed on location and then dubbed in the studio, lacking a sensory experience. However, "Boksi Ko Ghar" feels quite sophisticated. I could hear the footsteps, the sound of chirping, and cattle. I appreciated the effort put into sound engineering. However, if someone were to ask me, "Is the movie worth watching?" My answer would be, "Watch at your own risk of being disappointed in the end." The problem with this movie, like many Nepalese movies, is its senseless and reckless ending. Whether it's a book, article, KZfaq video, or movie, no audience likes to experience a "hatti aayo hatti aayo fussa" moment. I was so engrossed throughout, expecting either a happy or sad ending but something meaningful and impactful. Instead, it delivered a WTF ending. My disappointment lies in the fact that the movie failed to play an impactful role in raising awareness against "Boksi Pratha." Instead, it merely acknowledged its existence and how it's done, which everyone already knows. It also failed to be bold enough to show that there is a system in place and there are consequences. Instead, it suggested that there are no consequences; even the police will run away, and even activists can turn into boksi. The victim remains a victim. (Only a documentary has that luxury, not a movie.) That's not what I was expecting from the movie. Well, expectations hurt. Anyway, it's a commendable effort. It doesn't hurt or offend anyone. So both believers and nonbelievers of boksi can watch the movie to enjoy the flow and experiments. Oh yes! The younger version of Keki deserves to win the "best child actor" award. What a performance. Much love and power to her.
