Karl Urban was amazing and gave a little bit of a good human side of dredd. In the end I mean. And the best part didn't take off the helmet

Cypher witnessed several "The Ones" get killed due to Morpheus' obsession to find a savior. Cypher became disillusioned when he repeatedly lost his friends.

Another little touch i liked about the moonshine sippin scene: i interpeted Neos nervous laughter and hesitation as Intuition not to trust him. He didnt drink from his cup until Cipher drank from the jug. Cipher is a well written, perfectly cast and portrayed, compmex, sympathetic villian. I would be so into how other crew members were red pilled. Cipher is the first i would want to know. Seeing how interesting Karl Poppers story was.

If you'll permit me to play with words a little, an argument could be made that Anderson's "primary weapon" _isn't_ her gun - it's her psychic ability. She chooses not to wear a helmet to avoid interfering with her powers, and she uses her powers more than she does her gun throughout the story. Ultimately, she passed because she demonstrated good, well, judgement. She fought when it was necessary, she protected the innocent - even if Dredd didn't realise the guy was innocent at first - and she enforced the Law.
@droppingpins6244
@droppingpins6244 4 ай бұрын
You are mistaken. Anderson's gun was never a condition of failure. "losing your primary weapon or having it taken from you is an automatic fail." Anderson's primary weapon was her mind, and she maintained complete control of her mind even while in the head of very disturbed individuals. I feel you also overlooked the fact they are judges, not just cops. A judge has to look at the facts of the case and make a decision based on many factors. One of the factors a judge can consider is if it is in the interest of justice, and to the public, to convict certain offenders. The medic locked dredd out, but dredd determined it was not in the interest of the public to convict him, since his conviction would surely mean the destruction of precious medical supplies. This is in contrast to the Stallone Dredd, which was a horrible judge, since the law was only black and white. Finally, Anderson letting the tortured hacker go was an attempt to prevent an incorrect sentence against him. Judges do have discretion in their decision making, and dredd was explained the rationale behind her decision, and he made no counterpoint of disagreement. We can safely conclude he agreed with her sentence once she explained it.

She survived a situation far beyond most other judges. Anderson also stood up to Dredd showing independence. She passed because she did the right way.

I do still think that within the context of the film only, Dredd as portrayed throughout the film would have failed her. Not enough was done to characterize him as being willing to go against the rules he set out at the start of the assessment, nor that the rules he gave came from him and not the City. Knowing more about the source material (which can't be expected of an audience member for the film), it is within character for Dredd to go against the rules. Lots of people like to hold him up as being this epitome of a hard-ass Lawful-Neutral character that goes by the letter of the law at all times, no matter what, even when the law says something stupid but actually, characters in the comics are always criticizing him for being too idealistic and holding the populace to the standard of what he thinks the law should be, rather than what it actually says.

22:00 dredd also got confirmation there that he would have failed himself if he had judged the hacker, since as she said he was a victim. dredd would never know that. her psychic abilities made her a better judge, proving that her becoming a judge would be a immensely potent solution to the cities problems

Absolute gem of a film, long time 2000AD fan and this is the Dredd we wanted. Underrated at release and a shame there was no sequel. The talks of an Amazon series got us hopeful. This is beyond gritty and realistic. I always thought it was akin to 'training day'. A brilliant introduction to the Megacity

Dredd WOULD have failed Anderson, had Dredd been the same man he was at the start of the film. It's a story about Dredd evolving to the point that he sees the bigger picture, rather than being the cold, clinical rules arbitrator he was. It's to subtle for most folks to get. Dredd evolved, but VERY SLIGHTLY! He's STILL DREDD!!!

What I found especially good sign of Joe Dredd being human was his treatment of vagrant. It was chance to test Anderson's knowledge of procedure and show he has practical leniency. He had bigger issue to handle and gave a clear warning. Then once he was returning he went to arrest vagrant as Dredd will not bluff or lie.

Cypher was Morpheus’ previous attempt at finding the One. I realized this after watching the Matrix and KZfaq reactions about a hundred times. The Oracle told Morpheus that he would find the One, so his crew started searching for the best hackers within the Matrix. After Morpheus unplugged Trinity, the Oracle told her that she would love the One (and I think that the man she loved would die). Suddenly, Morpheus has a better method for searching for the One using Trinity's attraction to the One through a kind of Matrix-wide dating app (as seen in the first scene of the movie). She is attracted to an amazing young hacker with a sense of humor (and probably a great head of hair) named Cypher, so she swipes right. Thus, Morpheus thought that Cypher was the One and unplugged him. Cypher was treated like Neo with the whole crew excited that he was the prophesied One that would save humanity from the Machines. However, Trinity realizes that she does not actually love Cypher since deep down he is a troubled person. But at the same time, Cypher is falling in love with Trinity. At some point, Trinity confessed to Morpheus and Cypher that they have not found the One, since she did not (and never would) love Cypher. This crushed Cypher, since he found out that the woman he loved did not love him and that he was not the special savior of humanity simultaneously. This made him insanely bitter since he was trapped on the cramped Nebuchadnezzar for nine years with a woman he loved that rejected him, a crew that no longer thought he was special, and a leader that had essentially tricked him into leaving his comfortable life with family and friends to live in terrible dystopian conditions. When the Trinity restarted searching for a One that she would actually fall in love with, Cypher decided to betray the crew that had betrayed him. He contacts the Agents with information about Morpheus’ search for the One, just before Neo is going to be contacted by Morpheus and Trinity.

I've watched this movie a few times, and this video before. One thing I've just noticed is Anderson is carrying her helmet at the end of the movie. Just seems an interesting detail, considering that before she knew what the job entailed she thought her psychic abilities were more important, but by the end of the film she knows how dangerous the job is.

Anderson never lost her primary weapon - her mind. She's a Psychic, and a powerful one. Judge Dredd took that into consideration when he passed her. If you take that into consideration, you can see that Judge Dredd remains true to the code - it doesn't say "lose your pistol (Lawgiver)", it states "lose your primary weapon".

honestly this vidieo explains something i believe few truly get behind the judges. they are not an authoritarian millinery force that act as judge jury executioner. they are the judge who read the law, the jury that assets the charges and the Executone that expenses the law. so if an judge deceid the punishjment dont fit the crime they are in there right to let an ciminal run an nonoe other than an superior officer has any right to object there action

Movie very much makes clear that judges are few in number as well. Peach Trees might be extreme example, but it is likely that small crimes like vandalism, domestic violence, fights and similar incidents are solved by auxiliary judges. That means police who have legally defined rights and duties.
