The one fatal flaw with this loop knot (IMO), and I have practiced it, is that it's hard to control the size of the loop. Specifically, it's hard to create a very small loop with this method. Other loop knots are easier to tie and to manage.

Seems an unnecessarily convoluted way to tie it. Just make a bend, run the end around it, then through the loops (as in the diagram)
