I think it's like learning how to play an instrument or music theory. You first have to learn the rules to understand why they exist, while developing your ear, and then you can break them ! Otherwise, as a beginner, you may feel overwhelmed and confused since your ear is not trained yet.

Free game: When engineers are saying "I left some channels without compression" it's because they apply compression in stages with parallel channels (Compression + Limiting + Clipping which is chained to lift the sound up; EQ isn't needed all of the time when the producer is considerate to Master-Render outs during the final production).

So wait, did he mastered the whole song at the end in the mix buss or was he finishing the mix itself to then send off to a master engineer?

I think I saw a documentary- the engineer in this session only mixes in mono - is that true?
@EngineEars29 күн бұрын
no he mixes in mono and stereo, mono helps get the balance to translate better, but thats just speaker monitoring not making the tracks mono.

i gotta try 4:42:49 myself.. he dialed that delay in too good ..lol (without a ducking effect!) woah! Either he's trolling and there's some ducking/side chaining going on or that's one strong plugin and or configuration settings.. that delay is sitting perfectly! Edited: Nope... I tried it... it's the sauce.

Fairly basic stuff here which is actually nice to see! The right tools for the right job that's all it takes. It also highlights the importance of getting good source material rather than thinking you can just make it better after! If you have amazing source material it makes the mix down 100x easier
