There is something I enjoy about watching you service a 7548. These models demonstrate that quartz movements are to be respected and are indeed reliable. I've been wanting to add one to my collection for a while.

Hi Spencer and Sabrina. I recently bought my first timegrapher and I'm trying to regulate some of the watches in my collection that have already been serviced but not regulated (don't ask why). These watches have very healthy amplitudes (+250 degrees) but regulating some of them is proving to be a challenge. A citizen 8060A for example, a movement commonly used for citizen sekeleton watches of the 70s is making my blood boil. I can't fix the beat error! The best i can do is 1.0 ms because there's no more room to move the lever. Do you happen to know why that could be?

I have 3 pieces, one with domed sapphire glass and aftermarket dial plus hand's which looks comical but with perfect case and movement (1984) , one with small text dial but totally green hands and indexes (1984) and one almost mint from 1977 , Japanese version and on original strap which is my treasure. I love this model and videos like this are like magnets for me!

Hey Spencer and Sabrina. Firstly - you are both looking very sharp! Loving the new hair styles! Quick bezel insert question: I have a 7002 that is in all original condition, except the bezel insert. Do these have the same sloped inserts as the 6309/7548?

Hi S&S. Speaking of Daini/Suwa, I have a 7019-6081 which is missing the Daini logo on the dial and on the caseback. Any ideas why the the logo is missing? It has the be the first ever vintage Seiko I've seen where the Daini/Suwa logo is missing.

I got more Seiko's than I'll ever have serviced. I'm guessing many do. It's hard to stop buying, lol . What I should do is trade some cool watches for a service one on one I will wear? I was bidding on untested Seiko's from an action for a long time. Some run, some didn't. And sometimes I hit the jackpot! For example I recently got a bumble bee (Malaysia) that is in New condition and runs great! Yeah, but tend to wear five or six and the rest just sits.

It’s been fascinating watching your progress, as I had to ditch a GT restoration some years ago Due to a change in circumstances, so it’s been great To see you succeed, where I failed. I hope you will continue to show your progress with Greenbean, and I wish you all many years of Happy(and Stylish!) motoring!

Having grown up restoring and driving an old Porsche back in the day, I'd recommend putting a small tool bag together for the car with common wrenches, tape, wire and some gloves to keep your hands clean from all the things that will come up along the way.

Hi Spencer and Sabrina. I have a problem with Seiko 7548 movement. With a fresh battery runs for a while and stops with the second hand shaking triying to move. This problem seems to be recurrent with 3 of the i have in the past. Even now it's happening with a recently serviced one. It's a comon failure? What should check? Thanks and have a great Summer!

Hi Spencer & Sabrina. Speaking of 7548s, I noticed that my 7548 from 1980 has a bezel insert that is not beveled i.e. sloped from the outer edge towards the crystal, which is the case for most 7548s. I am pretty sure my watch is all original, nothing looks like it's been messed with or changed and in very good condition. The bezel insert looks closer to those on the 7549 tunas i.e. flat from outer edge to inner edge. Do you have any insights as to why my bezel insert may be different from the standard beveled one? (p/s- it looks like yours in the video is also flat?). Mine is a Japan 'J' case by the way.

Hi. To answer the question of how to easily distinguish Suwa and Daini you must mention their logos, lightening bolts for Daini and the cyclone for Suwa. The history of Suwa and Daini go back to WWII, when the Hattori family feared for their Tokyo plant and so expanded to Nagano. There's more to be found on this topic in Beyond the Dial's excellent review which can be found online. Glad to contribute in a small way. 😊

We actually went to see it a couple of hours after we finished the video. Figured that we did all of backstory watching of every movie and all of the cartoons (yes, including the 90s version) that it was stupid to not just go. We both brought earplugs, though I think I missed some bits because of them. Oh well. I’m sure we’ll have a segment at the end of the video next week talking about it.

I'd like to use one of these as a daily, but it would need lume good enough to be able to read in the middle of the night. I've heard you say you value the same. How do you recommend reluming these vintage divers so that you can read them at night, but keeping the character of the original (avoiding blobby greenish lume)?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch 8 күн бұрын
I relume the hands on the underside - "underluming" I call it. Surface lume looks the same, the added oomph of the new lume can be charged up enough to help out the old lume which will still glow a bit on these. It won't be bright enough to read a book by but it should work to make reading the time doable.
@nickhalverson5330
@nickhalverson5330 7 күн бұрын
@@SpencerKleinVintageWatch does the underlume cast enough light on the dial that reading the time is not a problem, if the lume on the dial is not working any longer?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch 2 күн бұрын
If you charge the heck out of it, but on a black dial that makes it the bouncing light harder to see. it DOES help though.

Thanks for the vid Spencer, pushed me over to picking one up. Do you think a NOS crystal for the old one would fit reliably into the new case? Only thing that bothers me about this release is that they went with a regular single dome crystal, instead of the originals internal dome.

The manufacturer details the procedure in the instruction sheet included with the purchase. 3 min in air pressure. Immerse immediately and release air pressure. Watch for bubbles. Simple as that. Bergeon No. 5555/98
