the cheetah's start is slow but it reaches 130km/h at full speed, meanwhile the lion is a truck with 0 to 80km/h in 3 seconds. Which means if the lion is close enough the cheetah has no chance to survive. the cheetah is 40kgs at best and the lion is 200kgs, imagine how scary that animal is

looks like cheetah was already exhausted of running and thats why lion catch up to her, and maybe if cheetah cubs are nearby she might had diverted lions or when found no way then just sacrificed herself

Firstly the cheetahs desn't knew about their ability of fast running secondly poor cheetah become easy to catch because he is on mentally down when he found him self on the wrong place and scares out of those coming lions. That is why he decided to stopped and surrender.
