Grumpy Jinkins ran that timing set. So I would say it’s not junk.

One question.... If there is a metered port for the vacuum advance (5:24) then why use a spacer plate port (6:25)?

I know big block pumps fit sbc I’ve used em many times they give you more pressure and volume but because they have more bigger teeth they take more power.don’t believe me,,,ask Smokey Yunick.don’t know if I’d try the reverse tho

Yes, double up the distributor gasket, I have always used 396 pumps, bigger inlet tube and only takes 5 hp, high volume sbc pump takes 11 and eats dist gear if button on cam isn't used

Big block pump will work fine as a matter of fact it takes less horse power to turn pumps more volume and with the bigger gears the flow is smoother maintaining constant oil pressure, I ran one on my 327 and never had a bit of problems with it !

Chevy used those nylon timing gears to help dampen engine noise. They were problematic as the nylon wore and created slack in the timing chain. At 60,000 miles, the chain in my '69 dz 302 Z/28 jumped the gear. My dad was a mechanic and tore the engine down. The damage was mainly just a couple of bent pushrods, but he rebuilt the engine with new rings, valve job, and put a solid steel gear back in it.

This 100% works fine on a gen 1, 2 piece rear main seal block. Can say for sure on anything else. Plug measurements are 8 3/8 from top of block and about 1 1/8 from main cap side. I currently have one in my block with no oiling issues

If you leave that plug out the oil will bye pass the oil filter. Then you know what will happen to your bearings.It won't take long to ruin your day.
@toddnelson7050

Hello, if you put a pipe plug into that block you would be below both passages versus in between them. Looking at the exploded drawing of that motor it looks like you’ll end up preventing the oil from first going through the filter. So your motor would end up with unfiltered directly to the bearings. Or am I getting this wrong.

It doesn’t say on the book LT one all it says is high-performance four-speed. And somebody erase the vet number on the side some people erase these numbers to make clones so if this is an LT one that means all the early 350s are LT1 s

I have a Vortec block and a 1/4 NPT tap does not fit as well as yours does. I noticed it slid in the hole a little before you even started to turn the tap. Mine is tight from the beginning. Right at the block bearing cap surface. Any ideas/thoughts?

My neighbor gave me a free 350 long block. It was orange and came out of a 3/4 ton truck. Same block but it had truck heads, I still have the block in the garage and never bored. Bought a 77 C10 and it had the same block and truck heads. Still have that one and a 69 327 built into 383 sitting in my 71 Chevelle. Picked up a 73 454 with forged crank, truck rods and 049 heads. Never bored. Came with heavy duty folding stand and RPM intake for $600. LT1 should have camel hump heads, solid cam and 780 Holley i think.
