Great video! I like your approach. I recommend also the H2Go water purification device, and data cards from CanaProvisions in the US. Also, if you intend to avoid people, consider either a non tactical night vision binocular, or thermal monocular paired with regular binoculars.

Pretty muscle vs. Functional muscle! Great stuff! If I could give you more than one "thumbs up" I would! For defense, consider adding a walking stick or bamboo cane (you can use it to walk, fight, or as a stick to carry a sacks like a "hobo stick") Also, add a length of solid rope (thicker than paracord) like 1/2" thick nylon rope cut to just under 3ft (1meter) in length and tie knots at both ends. I've trained in using a garrotte in both self defense and combat and there are plenty of videos on the internet that can get you started learning to use a garrotte in a fight

@@AlexWander You are welcome brother. Oh, and best way to carry a garrotte in public is to put it through the belt loops of your pants, on top of your belt (if you wear a leather belt it will be easier and faster to deploy the garrotte when it's needed since leather is inherently smooth and non-binding which is why a lot of motorcycle riders wear leather and no one liked road rash after a crash) Stay strong adventurer!

As I watched the video, it made me think you have a plan but do your parents have a plan A, B, C tailored to the situation and abilities/disabilities? It would be great if you had a folder with if/then worksheet and then sections to guide them through the scenarios until you can reach them and if you can’t reach them. If you get delayed, how will they survive the emergency situation safely?

Great attitude and advice. My furthest point when at work is 60 km from home. As an electric train driver I'd really be in trouble if I had no transport. I've downloaded offline maps and when I see 15 hours walking time across a hostile city as my only option I dread the idea. Getting water and not mugged are my main concerns. 2 days I think if all goes well.
@AlexWander
@AlexWander 3 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Not sure in what city you live in but I can understand what trouble means in your case. I was wondering, as a train driver , did you ever think of using rail roads to reach safely the nearest point that leads to home? Just thinking out loud, In my humble opinion, if something major happened , train traffic should be shut ooff and rail roads would become the path of least restistance last but not least all the "Eyes" should be focused somewhere else , what do you think? Of course 60 km are a long way home and maybe for you a portable electric "vehicle" could be a plus for sure ! About water, if you have a Grayl geopress you can drink even the nastiest puddle you can find on the street , just prefilter the water quickly with a shemag or a t shirt and then press it into the grayl . The risk of Being mugged is a serious problem, as I've already said, I would find a less and unconventional beaten path even if it's against the law, you know we need to get back home to our family , this is our priority , 🙏

@@AlexWander I'm in London UK . You've made a very good point about walking the rail network. I'd get away with that and definitely be safer. I've been groomed to follow rules maybe why I've still got my job after 30 years. I have a new water bottle that can filter any puddle water so time to start using it. I purchased it many years ago from the Mormon church website. Thanks again

If I knew that there was a very good chance that I'd have to cross a large swift river, I probably stash a pair of swim fins in my vehicle. You would have crossed that river in 1/3 the time and much less effort with fins. I understand that you couldn't do it just to make a video, but if you know that you are going to get soaked, it sometimes makes sense to strip down to your underwear, or less. Cross the river and then put your dry clothes back on. Soaking wet clothes aren't going to keep you warm in cold moving water.
@AlexWander

Swim fins are definitely a great advice, honestly I didn’t think of them! Thanks for sharing ! About clothes I was wearing very light clothes and it was very hot outside , I think I would do it if the temperature were colder 🙏🏻 Thank you again for taking your time to share , I really appreciate it!

Alps and Dolomites are definetly hard to overpass, we have old parents they could never be able To take a steep path like this. Tuscany is in the center of Italy and we have the Apuan mountains if we need to go to remote areas in a cabin or so, plus the sea side gives you another escape Route so We could pay someone to drive us outside of Italy By boat 🙏🏻

I carry a mask and goggles, very important to protect your eyes. What kind of pepper spray launcher was that? - does that platform increase range and accuracy? I may have missed it but do you carry cash or any barter items? If not what would you recommend?
@AlexWander
@AlexWander 5 күн бұрын
You took the right choice, as a matter of fact i've lately ordered some professional sealed googles to protect my eyes. The Walther PDP Pepper Spray uses ballistic gel. There's an automatic palm safety protects against accidental triggering The OC active ingredient mixture (pepper) of the pepper spray contains an invisible nano-wicking agent, which is still visible days later under UV light (black light)

I have a plan where to walk to get from work to home, I have found out some bridle paths/footpaths to shorten the distance and avoid a dangerous road but completely forgot that I need to cross a river which ever way I go. Yes there are a couple of bridges I can use, but what would happen if one, or both of them was out. Just never crossed my mind before, we just take things like that for granted. I’m also not a great swimmer. I’m going to get a dry bag to use as a buoyancy aid to go in my get home bag.

There's no way I would cross a river that way. It's just too risky and even if you make it, hypothermia could get you. It would be better to cross the river with a small inflatible pack raft. Hikers use these little, compact, lightweight rafts to get across streams when back-country hiking. You might end up a mile downstream before you get to the other side but a little planning and a test run would make that an acceptable outcome.
@AlexWander
@AlexWander 5 күн бұрын
I agree with you , but I took that decision for these reasons: 1) it’s summer (damn hot) 2 ) despite the current that part of the river wasn’t deep 3) I grew up swimming in this river and I’m still Alive 😂 4) I’ve started way up on the river because I know that I had to take a diagonal trajectory due to the current and I’ve almost to end up at the point I planned. Of course I wouldn’t do it during winter because we have harsh winters 💪

The foldable paddle (remodeled) can also be used as a stick for support while walking. Remember that it will be easier for you to keep dogs and " "wild animals" " away. Running is fun, but it consumes a lot of calories.
