just a word of advise, don't scratch a kangaroos belly. When two males are fighting they go back on their tail and try to disembowel each other, if you get a roo thats having a bad day, he sometimes thinks your after a fight, and if that happens there will be lots of blood and none of it will be the kangaroos

Think it was a wallabies belly also it was a petting zoo mainly for children so these animals are slightly domesticated . but thanks for the advice I may need to resist the urge in the wild 😂 they are wonderful animals and so scratchable.

I just found your channel and I must say I'm impressed. Great start and if you keep up the great work I'm sure you'll both be very successful youtubers. You added so much info into your first video which was well shot and interesting to watch. Filled with little things that other vloggers miss telling travellers. Costs, time to travel, information sign posts before starting a walk and just a more natural travel video. So thank you for your time and effort to share. Keep up the great work and enjoy your travels 👍 😀

5:57 what youre looking at is the boiler. it would either have been fed with hand shoveled coal or bunker oil and would produce steam for the ship to run on

As a born/bred ChCh local it's interesting to hear your perspective on a place that many of us got thoroughly bored of as a kid being taken there year after year at school (and every history project we ever did as kids always seem to be on this place!) The ships that are "wrecked" are actually intentional as a scrapping graveyard. All were built in the 1800's but not abandoned until the 1900's. The bigger ship you were talking about is the "Darra" and rather surprisingly was only scrapped/abandoned/left there in 1950! The boiler at 5:46 comes from the oldest of the wrecks, the Mullogh, which was left to rot in 1923 (originally built in 1855). You are quite correct - it was a steam ship and rather remarkably was one of the very first screw steamers in the world! P.S. well done on incorporating some te reo Māori! P.P.S. I am utterly shocked at the price of the ferry to the island now! Admitedly I haven't been for maybe 10 years but it was never that high... perhaps the (reasonably new) cruise ship visits have made them up the prices!

Thanks so much for the insight! We found it so interesting! Its amazing what you can find just outside of ChCh. Thanks for your comment 😊 P.s i have to agree the ferry price is a bit much 😂

What a special moment with a wild animal. It would take all my restraint to not reach out and touch him - I know they ask that you don't. In this case, the seal initiated the interaction. So great.
