So much of cats communication is visual, do you just get bit all of the time? Like how can a cat communicate with you that it doesn't want to be pet or how do they avoid getting stepped on?
@JoshTseng
@JoshTseng 23 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question! Yes while cats communicate visually, they also communicate in other ways. At least with Momo, our family cat in this video, he does quite a number of things to signal what he does and doesn't want. For example, if he doesn't want pets anymore, he'll use his paw to push your hand away (without scratching). Also, he sometimes bites as a form of affection, and he doesn't do it very hard. He was on the bed with me one time and just came up to my face and bit me on the forehead. I didn't like it obviously lol, but it's just something he does once in a while. For my part it's just startling and that's the end of it. To avoid getting stepped on, it's just something the cat gets used to. They eventually learn to avoid you while you're walking, which is soething I've heard from other blind people who live with cats. Unfortunately accidents do occasionally still happen, but I don't think it's exclusive to me. Momo in particular isn't always very smart about where he chooses to lie down and many of my other family members have accidentally stepped on him. Luckily nothing serious, and it obviously doesn't happen all the time. It's a normal part of life when you live with cats. Hope that answered your questions!

Thanks for your comment! And haha I wouldn't say the videos were extremely popular, though I'm grateful for the responses all the same. I haven't stopped aspirations for this channel, I'm just re-configuring how we approach content here. I do other work in the media space so I never stop thinking about projects like this. The social media presence has also opened up many other opportunities, especially speaking engagements, so truthfully I've never stopped the work I've started here on social media and KZfaq.

How did you make this video?
@JoshTseng

If you're referring to the editing, I have an editor who helps me with the post-production. If you're specifically referring to how we simulated my current amount of vision, I wrote down a detailed description of what I see through my eyes, and my editor tried their best to recreate it using visual effects in Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. I used to be able to see, so that's how I knew how to describe details like "seeing through frosted glass" and "less than 5% of what a normal person sees",. There's also visual simulations of vision loss created by other scientific and disability organisations, so we used those as references as well. Hope that helps answer your question!

Bro then how did she fly a plane and how did she right a book 😮
@JoshTseng
@JoshTseng 23 күн бұрын
She didn't technically pilot the plane. Helen Keller was just given the opportunity to sit in the cockpit and feel the plane's controls in her hands, supervised by a proper pilot. She also got to activate some of the controls, through supervised instructions given by the pilot to Helen's interpreter, who translated it to Helen using tactile sign language. It would be absolute madness to let someone like her fly a commercial plane herself (or any untrained pilot for that matter). This was just a really cool experience given to her to let her experience something unique, because someone in her position would never otherwise be able to understand how planes operate through pictures or videos. It was also a stunt that was pulled for the movie that was being made about her, as far as my understanding goes. As for writing a book, Braille typewriters existed at the time. That's what she used to write by herself. The keys have Braille on them so she can feel which key corresponds to each letter, though I'm reasonably sure she could also touch type to some degree. Obviously, editors will proof-read the articles and books written before publishing, but that's normal for all types of writers. Hopefully that's a bit clearer. Helen Keller accomplished many things in her life, but she also wasn't a magician. There are definitely some exaggerations about some things she supposedly did, but also reasonable explanations for many of the other things she did genuinely accomplish. I know several deaf-blind people who are perfectly able to work, play, and exist in modern life with some reasonable accommodations, just like Helen Keller did all those years ago.

@@NatsuRoblox Most devices now have accessibility features and have the option to read out loud and describe what's on screen to viewers (i think many can even translate and use braille so that's also cool) so that's always my guess. Same with many movies and videos (but not enough sadly 😕).

I have a question: Is your blindness curable?
@JoshTseng
@JoshTseng 23 күн бұрын
Hi thanks for your question! Unfortunately for me no it's not curable. My eye condition is called glaucoma, which currently has treatment methods but no cure, and loss of eyesight from glaucoma is permanent. Fortunately there's technology that helps me do things like work, daily living, and even play some video games. So it's really not all bad. Hope that answers your question!

Do you ever imagine yourself as daredevil? Also, how do you imagine seeing things? Is it like the red outlines like in the comics, or maybe like the blueish foggy look in the daredevil movie or the world on fire in the show? Or maybe some other way?
@JoshTseng
@JoshTseng 23 күн бұрын
No not Daredevil. 😂 I only heard about Daredevil years after I lost my eyesight. I've made a video about how I see through my eyes but to summarise: it's very blurry and narrow. The way it's portrayed for Daredevil in the comics I think is actually how he perceives the world in his brain, after processing everything using his hearing. If you'd like to check out the video on what I can see, it's here: kzfaq.infotT9W7aU1X40

@@JoshTseng ah I see. And you're kinda right with daredevils radar sense. However, heres the thing. Ever since Matt Murdock was blinded by chemicals as a kid, his other senses basically became as strong as Dwayne Johnson when he used steroids. His other senses became more sensitive than a lovesick high school girl that got rejected by her crush before prom, and usually the way he sees things tends to vary depending on the version, but the design is consistent with his senses. For instance; in the comics, I'll use the lines that are shown, when he uses his hearing, he can see outlines but he can't see color or details. Only 3d images. His sense of touch allows him to make out small details such as ink indentation on paper. His sense of smell can allow him to smell someone via sweat, perfume, cologne, deodorant, etc. His sense of taste can allow him to taste copper in the air from when someone has an open wound. However it will usually look like the lines if we're referring to the comics. For the show, it depicted the world on fire, so it'd appear like it's getting illuminated by fire regardless of the sense he's engaging.
