I knew Jenny when she and I were both teenagers and my mother worked as a cottage mother caring for Jenny and some other children. One Christmas over 40 years ago, Jenny came to stay with us. I’d love to get in contact with her again. It’s wonderful to see Jenny so happy (I remember Jenny was always a bright person) and looking well too. My mum would be so happy to know that Jenny has a good life and a nice home. I know Jenny would remember me and my family fondly.

Love the premise and is all well and good for people who are mentally able to do BUT Scope also cater for people with disabilities AND whose mental age is not capable of these actions. Scope is moving forward and leaving these people behind - they are removing transport from their houses and sending people who cannot advocate for themselves and with mental ages of young children travelling with providers who do not know them AND if something happened they may be subject to intrusive care.

I have seen other signs for help, so it does not appear to be universal across all sign languages, which is kind of dumb.
@shinaydferre5414

There are many kinds of sign language but Auslan does have a lot of similarities with British Sign Language and New Zealand Sign Language, so with a bit of effort you would be able to understand them. You'd have a hard time understanding someone that speaks American Sign Language often just called ASL. To my knowledge, most countries have their own unique form of Sign Language.

Saying it's kind of dumb is a bit of a stretch when you consider the fact that most sign languages are developed separately from each other. Even within a general sign language, there will be dialects like in any other language that covers a good bit of ground. I say this as someone who does Japanese SL.

Gees why did Auslan change some of their signs? I liked Help from the 80s better and also the sign for Australia and now Australia is like picking up dirty trash and putting it in the bin. Help was better too, not so obvious if you needed help and now when you are in trouble its obvious you are signing. Gees Auslan not good.

Key Word sign is separate to Auslan, and shouldn't be viewed as the same language :)

@@woirm But I must add that the Auslan sign for help isn't so obvious if you are in trouble. This will show to the person who you need help from, to see you are signing. The Auslan if it is the same is not so obvious but people who understand the language will pick it up. Plus there are too many sign languages out there. Should be all uniformed.
