Did the exact same thing (except cutting the pen) to my 33” Nitto mud terrain tires. Looked great until I had them mounted on my wheels and the air pressure caused the ink to crack. Lasted a good 2 weeks.

Nice job bruv. those turned out sweet!! Ive gone through the same learning curve over the last few years and 2 sets of Defenders with my Jeep Willys. It wasn't easy it was frustrating but after about a hundred bucks ( Canadian) and a few restarts i have found the same technique. The razor blade is a perfect eraser eh!!. I didn't do the acetone so once they wear out i have a new trich to try. My paint pens are made by Forney industries and are acrylic too, so ive gotten a bottle of acrylic clear nail polish from my girlfriend and a going to add a coat or 2 of it in a matte finish. I find it just awesome to see someone so far away coming to the same result. Smash the pen use the 2nd as the brush. Good on ya eh. Now "Ya goin out for a RIP are ya Bud! Lol ( hilarious Canadian music video check it out if you haven yet). I love the Landy too.😊

Can anyone here comment on what type of paint is best for rubber tires? I imagine buying a pint of paint at the store is better than using what comes in these pens. I just don't know what type of paint is best. Thx
@0ptimal8 ай бұрын
Id say something oil based and exterior. Oil base sticks to about everything. Even spray paint you could spray into a container and use a tiny brush with it. Theres also marine paint. Some other options are kilz oil base primer, maybe rustoleum oil base if they have white. One or all of these would surely work as long as you clean the surface well beforehand. It may take 2, 3 coats depending what u use.

@0ptimal really appreciate your input! I did end up picking up some of the oil based sharpie paint markers. Haven't used them yet. Looking forward to giving them a try. I realize I will be needing to touch these up often, but that's unfortunately part of this tire paint process.

TAUTFLEX paint is sold in 500ml or even 50ml bottles and is a polyurethane vinyl mix used on truck tarps and logos on mudflaps. Very durable and long lasting and comes in heaps of colors.

If you are going to pull a paint pen apart, you may as well just buy a 500ml tin of white paint, and a fine paintbrush.

Look up tyre lettering pen, there's a few makes for tyres but white craft paint pens also do the job as long as its paint based it won't crack on rubber, ive bought white paint pens from Amazon that do the job better than 'tyre lettering pens'

Correct white tyre lettering paint lasts forever once painted on, but slight less bright after 6 mths, so i do my tyres twice a year to keep lettering bright like new, doesn't take long to repaint

Sick job mate. The security bolts are a pain. I had the same problem. I think the biggest problem I found was the stock breaker bar they give you. It twists strangely which screws it up. I got a new breaker bar and was able to get it done. But that was after I told the tire shop to loosen everything after they replaced my tires.
