When I was a blue belt (2 stripe) I went against a judo black belt and climbed up and down him. My instructor apologized to him after. 🤷🏻♂️just like all things it depends on the person. I will admit he flipped me just like this and it hurt like hell. Knocks your wind out..I did proceed to submit him with EVERYTHING known to man 😂

It's where the strikes were landing. You can see Joe's kicks are landing at the shin like a Muay Thai kick. Impacting with the shin delivers a ton of force. Schilling's kicks were more like Tae Kwon Do kicks landing at the ankle. Ankle impact is more controlled but less powerful.

I took Judo back in the day. A little practice and repetition and it's super practical. Once it becomes 2nd nature and ur muscle memory to takes over? It works. But I think it only works with certain scenarios. Your opponent needs to allow you to grapple with em for one thing. BJJ grappling is a little looser as far as the technique and practice but I think they have a wider range of available moves. I wasn't a master at either so idfk

In my judo class we always had a mantra “position before submission”. BJJ got way too comfy in earlier days of mma when no one had submission defence so they just pulled guard. But that shit doesn’t work in Judo or modern MMA really.
