Hey! It should come off, but if you are concerned about the removal affecting the finish of the original material underneath then I’d recommend using double sided sticky tape or a self-adhesive variation of the wallpaper instead. :)

Hey Tricia! Thanks so much for letting me know your thoughts, I’ve done some reading previously on the fascinating history of zippers in women’s clothing - isn’t it remarkable? Admittedly I set my age estimate a little later than yours on the basis that, since the dress is likely handmade by a home seamstress, she may have been following ‘rules’ that were somewhat older than those of the fashionable commercially produced clothes of her time, and similarly may have been using an older metal-toothed zipper from her stash (goodness anyone trying to date the clothes I make with my nana’s vintage button stash are going to tear their hair out in the future!). You are probably right with the velvet bow on the skirt, it’s lovely but it does seem like a far more hastily Handsewn on detail that doesn’t quite match the quality of the rest of the skirt’s make. Also, I recently helped a friend do the same thing with her kitchen, and we found that using a brand new Stanley knife blade worked a LOT better and was a lot cleaner and cut for the edging on the doorways. Just as an extra word of advice! I’d also recommend holding the blade at kind of a 45 degree angle when cutting along the edge to give it the smoothest finish possible. ❤️❤️ happy renovating my friend!!

Hey! That totally makes sense on the darts, since from what I’ve seen it’s relatively normal not to backstitch on darts. Would love to hear the reason you know of as well! There were definitely a lot more stray threads in the underneath of the skirt than I otherwise would have expected, but since it’s lined I suppose there was less need to go cutting every stray thread since they didn’t expect someone to go muddling through the guts of this specific skirt. 🥰 not their fault! Just a surprise for me, and quite validating, hahaha.
