Gianluigi, the switch in the catenary: How is it constructed? My idea is the wire stops under the 'top' and the trolley automatically follows the cars lead picking up the wire again. Is that correct? I love the way your streetcars run. Got some of them myself, motorized and digital, on my own layout. If you are interested, you van see them on my channel.

The system is electrically powered by a Hornby Select Digital Controller. One pole is connected to the overhead contact wire, the other is connected to the rails which are grounded as in reality. It is therefore possible to make ring return loops without the danger of short circuits. All cars are equipped with Hornby or Esu decoders. The digital system allows all cars to move at the same speed, which would not be possible with the traditional analogic power system. Two lines are in operation in the plant: 4 (short line) and 7 (long line). In the layout there are 8 stops controlled by timer relays adjustable from 5 to 20 seconds. These relays are each controlled by reed contacts: one for START and another for STOP activated by micro-magnets applied under each tram. If a tram comes up behind another tram stopped at that moment, before the stopping time has not yet completely elapsed, the arriving tram makes it leave early and therefore stops itself. The automatic switch is controlled directly by arriving trams: line 7 continues straight on, while line 4 deviates towards its terminus. From the 15V AC power supply, the first wire connects directly to the switch-motor, while the second wire connects to the overhead contact wire. Near the switch there are two contacts arranged at different heights which are closed by the metal pole of the trolley of the passing tram. These two contacts are connected to the two terminals of the switch-motor to make it available for straight or deviated track. The trolleys of the line 7 cars have an isolated section so as to close only the contact that arranges the switch for the straight path, while the trolleys of the line 4 cars have their own isolated section so as to close only the contact which sets the switch for the deviated path. I have watched and found the videos on your channel very interesting. Congratulations for your nice landscaping. Latecomer, I know but this layout is great. ChinAl has probably discovered that many of these trams appear - usually not motorised - on eBay. Track and overhead are rare but there’s lots of guidance on scratch-building. I’m sticking to trams from places I’ve been and static since my hands started shaking. Thanks for the upload.

Dear Mike, don't worry about the delay. I bought the trams on ebay, all without motors, then I motorized them with the Halling (Wien) trucks: the bogie cars with the 'C1' type, the two-axle with the 'Vario Antrieb' with wheelbase from 23mm to 54mm. All the trams were then digitalized with Hornby and Esu decoders. The track and overhead line layout are from the 'Tramway Rivarossi System' from the '60s. The radii of the curves is 10cm which in reality corresponds to 8.7m! This is why I had to work a lot on the bodies of the longer cars to make it possible to negotiate these curves; but the beauty of a tramway network is precisely the radii of the very tight curves. The automatic control system works with relays activated by reed contacts activated by small magnets mounted under each tram. You're right! Bachmann should have mounted operating trolleys on his PCCs ... and installed bodies lower on the trucks, as I had to do by working on the frames and interior of the bodies. Thanks for your comment and for watching. There is a video of mine on Bachmann Peter Witts on which I also installed operating trolleys instead of the unsuitable originals due to the wheel too large. How do you remove the floor from the body of the Brussels #5000 tram for motorising?
@gianluigi6380
@gianluigi6380 3 жыл бұрын
I apologize to you for may late reply, but I read your question only yesterday. So I post this video ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oruDm7B5xqeXkWw.html ) to show how I did motorize some Atlas streetcar models. An advice: to open some models by detaching the frame from the body, you must remove the headlights from their seats. In some models body and frame are glued strongly together, so you must pay attention to avoid demages. Fortunately models are generally not very expensive, so you can use a second similar model… I motorized the models with the Halling (Wien) trucks: the bogie cars with the 'C1' type, the two-axle with the 'Vario Antrieb' with wheelbase from 23mm to 54mm. All the trams were then digitalized with Hornby and Esu decoders. The track and overhead line layout are from the 'Tramway Rivarossi System' from the '60s. Ciao, Gianluigi

The rail track I used are by Rivarossi 'Tramway System'. It's a '60 production and from early '80 is out production, sometime are finding in e-bay. I acclude a page from a Rivarossi catalog with these tracks; as you can see the radius are very tight (10 cm corresponding in reality a 8 m radius only!). To allow negotiate these curves I had to work hard to increase truck rotation of many models. Thanks for watching my video.

La MRS è di Naldini?
@GF47MATH94
@GF47MATH94 6 жыл бұрын
Gianluigi

Why do the cars tilt when they go around corners
@GF47MATH94
@GF47MATH94 7 жыл бұрын
The tilt effect is due to a little bit of interference between the body car and the trucks frame supports. This happens only on 'Rivarossi Tramway Track System' having a 10 cm radius that is in reality 8 m! The cars on a little as soon as larger corners does not tilting. Anyway thank you very much for watching and your specific question.Gianluigi
