Which Ludwig Drums sounded awful in the 90's ???, there where great !! Back then so I dont get that part , may be wrong choices of heads/ sticks / tunning , the only thing that they did not have where freefoat snares ( only after 94 those where not on top of the game drumcorps wise )

What better can it be a Fantastic USA brand with & Fantastic History, working together with a Fantastic Corps .. I may be getting g old but Ludwig/ Musser was always a great Brand even when the where not in the big Drumcorps picture.

The valve just looks like a Larry Minic from the 70's. Does anyone know why trombonists go on and on about ever greater allowances of volume, as if it were a requirement of musicianship, when modern oboes and flutes, who live in the same orchestral environment, aren't themselves worrying about getting any louder, and nevertheless they continue to enjoy more enthusiasm and attention from composers and audiences?

I just tried that concept of the wind over tonging and it certainly gives more fuller sound with minimal articulations involved in addition more gaining control as well...thanks for the explanation and demo.❤

Never thought I'd see top corps using Ludwig or Dynasty. Had both of those drums in HS in the 90's and they were absolutely terrible. Dynasty had those "special" screws that would break to protect the shell from overtightening, but were a pain in the butt to remove, and of course would break right before a show. And those Dynasty's replaced our Ludwig's we had, which were just garbage and sounded awful. Not trashing either company, that's just what we had back in those years. At the time, Pearl and Yamaha reigned supreme. ✌

If that's a commercial, it runs rather flat. I realize that jazz is a complex music, but ya gotta sell it a BIT more than ya do! It's fun to take risks! So what if ya play a wrong note? It ain't like half the people there will notice, eh? It's due to lack of ear training which ended sumtime in the late 50's or early 60's as regards suburban school districts. Our current kulcha does not recognize the ear-fun it can have with jazz, maybe since online porn is so freely available. Just a wacko thought here. The corporations have monetized our synapses, mebbe? Yet there are a lot of us who love jazz and the potential Channels that we can become (by hard work) for the endless Divine flow of musical thought!

I am showing my age here but we had ludwig drums back when I was in high school from 1988 to 1991. Those thing were tough and lasted for years. We finally got Yamaha drums my senior year in 1991. I was glad to see some new drums but I don't believe they were as durable as those Ludwig drums.

What goes around comes around. I marched back in the early 80's and the two bug drum companies were Ludwig and Slingerland. Good to see Ludwig making a come back after so many years in hiding. Our line met MR. Ludwig himself while rehearsing at Whitewater, Wisconsin I believe. He walked over to inspect our Slingerland drums and then before we could ask the elderly gentleman "Hey, can we help you with something?" Tom Float introduced the man himself. We had no idea the man was William Ludwig! Fun times and memories.

Ludwig took over the manufacturing. They're still the same drums, just branded Ludwig now.
@prestonjones200133 ай бұрын
@@BornVillain14 they’re not the same drums. Ludwig bought out System Blue, but those terrible sounding carbon fiber drums are no longer in use by BD. The Ludwig’s that BD is using in this clip are 8 ply Maple shells. Just watch a video of BDs Drumline from 2019 and then 2022 and you will plainly see that they’re not the same drums. They don’t even look remotely similar
@BornVillain143 ай бұрын
@@prestonjones20013 I'm aware, and as I said, Ludwig now manufactures what used to be System Blue drums. You can literally look up and find the carbon fiber drums for sale, listed as Ludwig drums.

For lesser musicians, perhaps. Won my audition with the Houston Symphony Orchestra at age 22 - playing a BADASS CONN 8D. The Vince DeRosa spec CONN 8D is absolutely the GREATEST FRENCH HORN. Nothing comes close. Wanta sound like God?
@bobbiecorno85603 ай бұрын
As the owner of a 1957 8D, a 2010 or so V8D, and former high school player of a classic 6D, I would suggest that Conn not be so stingy with the water keys and add them to all their horns now.
