Hey, I just discovered your channel due to this video (I saw Wanderbots play this game and wanted to see some more recent gameplay), noticed your channel was still a bit small, so thought you might appreciate some feedback from a viewer, particularly one that's an avid consumer of this type of content: This was exceptionally entertaining to watch! Not only does it look like a fun game to play in general (gives me big Crab Champions vibes), but your commentary is really top-notch! You talk with a lot of excitement in your voice, have a lot of genuine reactions to things as they happen in the game, and offer up some insightful critiques/thoughts on the game as you play! Often times, in my experience, people with channels like yours will either kind of dryly critique/review the game as they play, or they'll have almost nothing but over-the-top, insincere-feeling reactions the whole time, and you seem to have a perfect balance between the 2 styles, which is REALLY refreshing!! If your personality and entertainment style in this video is consistent across your other videos (which I'm about to go binge watch), I could honestly say you're better than most even big-name YTers doing the same sort of thing! Seriously, man, 10/10 stuff! The only suggestion I'd have for you, which is based on complete ignorance of your process so ignore it if it isn't relevant, would be to try to capitalize on the hype bigger channels generate for new/niche games. Like, Wanderbots played this one 4 days ago; if you released a video playing it one or 2 days afterwards, it'd probably be a lot closer to the top of YT search results for the game, generating more traffic to your channel, views, and potential subscribers. That sort of strategy is how *a lot* of big YT channels have gotten as big as they have (CinemaSins is an excellent example of that type of market strategy leading to success). I only suggest this because you seem like you've got some great potential in this type of content creation, and I'd love to see your channel grow! Annnnddd maybe I wanna see you play this game more... But mostly I just wanna see your channel grow, I swear!! Lol (Also, as a sidenote, I totally agree that I wish games like this had a way to encourage more in-your-face gameplay, as opposed to endless kiting. Even just having something like a Big Hammer as a weapon option would be spectacular; even though it wasn't a roguelike/roguelite, WH40k: Space Marine on the PS2 had an endless horde mode that I think did that excellently!) Keep up the great work, man! You've definitely earned my subscription, at the least!! I hope, if you want, that you'll one day get to do this full-time!

The DoT would have killed him, just bosses in DD2 like in DD1 have special turns at the end of their rounds, for example the Prophet always has a turn add the end of the round when he does his Rubble of Ruin move and does not take damage, in Darkest Dungeon 2 a lot of bosses have this mechanic, Seething Sigh with Sundering Exhalation, Focused Fault with Glare (but this special turn is at the begining), Ravenous Reach in his third phase with Last Grasp, but his Rumination move is a normal one, which is shown on the token in the screen's right upper corner, so he would die from DoT in the next turn when he would try to do Rumination

This is a good genre to rant to because sound plays a minimal impact on the viewer experience of watching you play it: no dialogue for story, etc. Rant seems like the wrong word, more like freestyle discussion or stream of conscience discussion. One thing I'd recommend is timestamps for the different topics. Nice video, definitely subscribing. Warning, this is a long comment. I think Steam reviews are useful but specifically for niche genres. Take for example pixel-art turn-based JRPGs. Somewhat popular but still comparatively niche against something like FPS. The problem is those reviews indicate how welcoming the game is, not necessarily how good the game is for its genre. Positive to very positive usually means welcoming but probably generic if you've played a lot of them. Overwhelmingly Positive (in a niche genre game) means very welcoming, solid gameplay, and probably a decent story: Chained Echoes and Ara Fell, for example. Very well received by die-hard fans and newcomers. Ara Fell has a pretty basic JRPG story but extremely solid fight/world mechanics. Chained Echoes, meanwhile, has those things is considered to have a more unique story and setting. Mixed reviews are where things get interesting. Either the game is really missing some elements to make it good for the genre its going for or it's fantastic but insanely unwelcoming. A Rotten Tomatoes for videogames would be great. What I'd love would be a scale/spectrum of audience to critic based on hours with the genre so you can see how the rating of a game scales with player familiarity to the genre. That would let you see where a game excels. Something with a 9/10 from people with 500 hours but only a 6/10 from people with 1000+ hours in the genre might be a really solid game but very safe/conservative when it comes to innovating/risk taking. I'm a few years older than you (35 in September). Obviously not a big deal but when it comes to generations of videogame systems, it can be in a weird way since it can determine what you spent the bulk of your time on as your first system. I bring that up because it plays a neat part in my view of Souls-likes. If someone grew up in, or after, the PS1 era then Souls-likes feel new-ish. Boss and fight mechanics are the point of the game, where the world and story are ancillary. In modern systems, that's pretty novel. What's weird though is if you grew up on SNES or NES, it feels like an old style of games ported to new systems. Old games played that way because of space/system limitations. Souls-likes do it as an intentional design decision. Soulsborne games feel like Super Ghouls n' Ghosts remastered for 3D. Obviously they've added more things like stats and builds but the core gameplay loop is identical. More importantly, and why I think Souls-lite elements are popping up in a lot of unrelated games (Jedi Fallen Order for example) is how different the design philosophy of gameplay is. The specific difference, and why I feel like players are gravitating towards those elements, is that the game/world isn't designed to help you win. A lot of games start with the premise, in story and the systems' willingness to help you progress, that you're important (for buying their game). Souls-likes/lites start from the design premise that you're only special if you win. Regular enemies are dangerous and you never become so special that you don't have to care about them from an in-game standpoint. It's part of why I think they've flourished so much in the speedrunning scene: the players are so good at the game that they make regular enemies, which are dangerous to most players, look trivial while also destroying bosses that took literal hours for the average person. I feel you so much on small town vibes for deep-diving on interests, particularly anime. I got lucky because my dad actually watched it, so my first was the original Mobile Suit Gundam. When I grew up, DBZ was niche but definitely the most accepted. Anime was scream-buff-punch-punch. Even Cowboy Bebop and Death Note (especially Death Note) were divisive at the time because they focused so much on story over people duking it out. There was always this weird stigma around caring too much about a particular thing, and since the internet was new, you could be the only person who actually cared enough about it to explore it beyond the popular entries.

Thanks for the sub and thanks for the tip! Ill add timestamps to my later discussion videos. I agree with all of your takes. Especially your Souls take. The first time I played a souls game I thought it felt a lot like a 3D Metroidvania. We are close to the same age so I feel like we had similar small town experiences. 😂

Character design, sexy or not, definitely plays a part in the appeal, but it all comes down to the overall vibe, I think. If the gameplay isn't matching or just sucks, having great aesthetics doesn't draw much, other than, you know, those kinds of people. Side note, I've seen people giving high praise to games just because of the visuals, even when the gameplay loop is the most barebones shit you've seen. So yeah, I guess it plays a factor, if all that matters is neuron activation.

On your side note. This might be a hot take but in feel like the visuals and cozy-esque vibe of Cult of the Lamb really carried that game. I thought the gameplay was kinda boring. It wasn't the worst but definitely not the best. Maybe I was a little too hyped up for it before it came out though
@swordzanderson5352

@@toadknight7298 Very much so, actually, hence why I'm not buying it until they drop a huge discount. It piques me because it has cutesy base building and gorey combat, but from what I've seen of the game, it really doesn't go in-depth for both aspects of the game. It just feels like both sides are done for both sides, instead of having fleshed out camps that, say, help with a specific build, or, say, certain runs that significantly affect your base. The two aspects don't have much interaction, other than necessity, since you only get more materials and blueprints and stuff via runs, and you get some buffs from buildings, but nothing changes drastically, which I think are the two main problems. Both aspects are kinda repetitive and segregated. It's a hot take, I suppose, but only because a lot will disagree. Doesn't mean they are really informed. To be fair, the game's fun. But it's not innovative, and just a good game to chill in. Not exactly riveting content. Main issue with CotL was that they advertised it as a cult-based Rogue-like, when it really should be Base-building with some rogue-like combat.

Mid-90's we called Xcom (UFO: Enemy Uknown) a strategy game. Tactics are applied in each fight, but strategy lied in slowly gaining protective coverage over the planet (Earth). I never played FF Tactics, but if it's focus is the fights VS conquering land, then it's considered Turn-Based Tactics.

Dave is great in an arcade aspect, but atm, the content is limited(obviously) and the repetitiveness of catching fish might throw you off after a few hours especially if you're like me who just maximises profits every run. The animations and goofiness, however? Cringey, but my type of cringey, it's a blast. I feel like Bocchi is less CGDCT, since it has emphasis on so many other aspects, and the comedy is just *chefkiss, but I can see how you'd not get into it if A) you don't like the style, B) you don't relate to the loner wacko BS vibe the group has and C) the music stuff, which is more technical and in depth than K-On, but I'm assuming you have trouble getting into K-On even more, becuase that is legit CGDCT. Bocchi, funnily enough, has more drama(at least internally) than K-On, and is a very good portrayal of an extremely eccentric person being trapped in a socially awkward body because of the fact they are eccentric, and how she grows alongside the group, especially with Kita who, at first, seems like the most dependable, but turns out is also a complete mess like Bocchi. This is even displayed in their hair style: Nijika and Ryo don't have hair bangs because they have nothing to hide, and Bocchi and Kita both do, because they fear how people see their true stuff, and there's much more of this kind of stuff confirmed by the author, plus the dozens of band references the show has. That and the commitment they have into making the jokes makes it my top 3 alongside Made in Abyss and 86, but obviously, I don't prefer an artstyle since the shows I watch range from cutesy to outright gruesome, sometimes both. But eh, just another weeb geeking out about their fave show.

Ibuprofen is a simple anti inflammatory pain reliever that has absolutely no "drugged up" effect on you whatsoever. You are confusing them with opiate pain killers such as morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone etc. Advil (Ibuprofen) is an extremely weak non opiod anti inflammatory that makes your tooth hurt less by reducing inflammation and swelling. If it had any psychological or addictive effects it wouldn't be sold over the counter and hundreds of them wouldn't be $8. It is incredibly hilarious in a naïve kind of way that you thought it had some kind of effect on you. You were likely able to sleep well because the lack of inflammation gave you some relief from your pounding tooth pain so you could finally get some rest. Anyhow, thanks for the video, just learn a little more about medicine before you say such silly things.

Yo Toad, dunno if you still play this game, but the Inspire line is much better. First upgrade gives your hero AOE and buffs ANY unit with a full shield, EVEN if it's a shield given by other units. Second either gives attack speed or an even bigger area, which is great since later waves at higher curses are insane, and FURTHER buffs all fully shielded units' damage.
