The upgrade to better efficiency is not ideal, and is a step in the right direction towards better efficiency, however it is a wasted one since in a few years the FCC will probably issue a second narrowbanding mandate, moving to 6.25.

@ImSoBrandon It doesn't matter what state you live in, you cannot get into the military with a GED alone. All branches limits the number of GED holders they recruit. No tier 1 or tier 2 university will accept someone with a GED, unless they have a degree from another college or university already. Whoever told you it was the same, lied to you. Apply at JHU or UM and lets see if they think it is the same.

@ImSoBrandon Statistics seem to suggest that it is better to stick out your last year or two of school and get your diploma, rather than getting a GED. 15% of GED recipients who go to college earn a degree, compared to 65% of those who went with a high school diploma. Research suggests that high school graduates are favored in entry level positions over GED recipients. Also, you can't join the military in any state with a GED unless you have college credits to go with it, so it is inferior.

@brownocasio I don't envy Governor McDonnell. Imagine justifying the funding for all these programs when thousands more don't have jobs let alone funding for healthcare. I think the governor has his priorities straight. I, personally really can't simpathize with a teacher that makes up to $65,000 when I can't even earn half that for myself and my family working 50+ hours a week. It isn't about covering a shortfall it's about getting my out of work cousin a job.

I didn't even go through high school so it's a little tougher for me. Gov. McDonnell recommends cutting $730 million dollars in K-12 Education Quality programs, $550 in State retirement programs, Reducing health insurance for teachers and Cutting millions of dollars in aid to families and poor people. Thousands will be without work or benefits rather than make moderate increases in State tax to cover the 4 billion plus budget shortfall. Thoughtful!

I'm proud to have Bob McDonnell as my Governor. He's right to direct economic development efforts to those portions of the state (especially the southwest) that are hurting. Northern Virginia doesn't need any help from the state government attracting new business.

Good, the fallacy of a space god should not be part of our county's education system. When santa clause is ready to go, the rest of the fairy tales should also be removed from the classroom. Why not decrease taxes to vineyards and lodging so they can market their own industries. None of what he proposes will make Virignia or America more prosperous. Oil/Gas revenue will Bail out his irresponsible plan, 20% going into renewables and 80% going to transportation which will forward build..great inefficiancy but Bailout his donors who will then give to the Republican and Democrat Party.

The Governor's Economic Fund will finish off private investment and private, independent enterprise. Virginia is no longer competitive..he is making us a welfare State. The ONLY way to create jobs is to cut government and cut taxes. This fund will drive unemployment.

The Economic commission is a means of putting off any govt reduction past the November elections and the Federal money will "hid" what he is doing.

Martin Luther King would have joined the Tea Party, the real Patriots in America, not the Republican. Virginia will lose as will America under his plan. The Weimar Republic did just as he is going to do.

Gov McDonnell (R) Va has accepted "Race to the Top" education "Stimulus" to cover shortfall in education, seeking HSA grants to cover shortfall in police/fire. Jeanne Marie Davis will get any other shortfall. Republicans are forcing a vote on Gov Kaine's budget to show who are the tax and spend folks. Gov McDonnell's p...lan will increase taxes on a Fed'l level and devalue our dollar.

Applause... We've got our work cut out for us. You are not alone Governor. The people of Virginia are ready for this next season. It will take all of us working Openly together.
