I think, the shield is what the wire was supposed to evolve into because they addressed the same issues. Wire portrayed more of the gang inner workings, and street side ecosystem. Shield portrayed more of the daily cop struggle to get crime under control on a daily basis, whether gang or non gang related crimes...it all tied into the ecosystem of the police department. Each show had dimensions of both so i think the Shield might be received better because it didn't get drawn out and a bit boring as the last few seasons of the wire. Shield managed to focus on 1 or 2 "boss takedowns" each season so that kept you hooked. I still prefer the Wire because i saw it first and loved seeing the realistic gang side of it that was never seen before on screen. The wire- cult classic The shield- underrated classic Dutch definitely deserved a spin-off😅

This is one of the top 5 best shows of all time. And I don’t think it gets enough respect. As much as I love the sopranos… The Shield is far superior and never gets the same love… and it’s a waaaaay better show.

Until I watched this, I thought bb was greatest and I was wrong! The shield was amazing for the times and even now. There couldn’t have been a Walter white, a Rick grimes, a tuco Salamanca, a gus fring, a Harry Bosh, a money chandler and many more if there was no vic Mackey!

That speech Chiklis gave about Goggins at 5:20 is dead on. Goggins was fucking unbelievable in this show. Such an underrated actor its criminal. He was fucking incredible.

Say what you will, but California didn't have the crime we have now when Vic and the strike team were out there. Friggen do gooders ruin everything and now this State is OUT of CONTROL!

That’s a solid top four the best show imo is the wire though. My top four would be 1. The wire 2. Game of thrones 3. Six feet under 4. Mr robot I’d have the shield at number 7, Dexter at number 17, and sopranos at 13 all are absolutely incredible shows. I guess I need to watch shameless

I bet vik wished he kept a copy of that blonde bitch ice agents file,she caused plenty of murders herself from smuggling them cartel guys over the border and committed several other fed crimes,but then she gets on her high horse after vik gave it her back,she makes out that he's a monster when she's just as bad then takes his kids,only if he kept that file,I don't think vik would of handed it over.

Season 1 SOA was arguably the best but overall SOA is more edgy, unrealistic and less compelling that The Shield - u will notice it’s Sutter’s show through and through so the writing is a reflection of what happens when he’s not challenged by anyone on his outlandish ideas.

This show was one of the few shows that stayed consistent from Pilot to Finale. There were the standard come-and-go's from cast, but the show feels like the same show in every single episode. The acting from these people cemented my image of them so much that even when they play on another show, all I see is their shield character. Especially Walton Goggins and Jay Karnes.

Most of the actors on The Shield this will be absolute best thing they're ever a part of or at least in the discussion of the best thing they ever do. Walton Goggins it will be either The Shield or Justified that is the best thing he's a part of. Michael Chiklis, David Reed Snell, Kenny Johnson, Benito Martinez, Jay Karnes, Catherine Dent, Paula Garces and others it's clearly the best thing they'll ever be in. Honestly being in a show that's half as good as The Shield should be considered an honor for any actor.

I would argue that both the Shield and the Aire really aren't "cop shows", the fact that their protagonists happen to be cops is just incidental. they are ultimately dramas, one about institutions, one about consequences. In terms of a pure Cop Show™, where it's clear that that is both the theme and the substance, I think Southland is the best of the modern era.

I loved this show, but can you imagine the cringey awkwardness listening to that speech, knowing that everyone gets their turn? I remember an interview iwht CCH Pounder where she'd literally went; 'some people need to remember that we're just people that show up to work'

As someone who watched both The Commish and The Shield in total, from beginning to end, it is incredible how different both characters are, yet so compelling and real. One of the greatest series ever aired.

I've just recently finished my second viewing of this show after first watching it about 10 years ago. My word, it was such a pleasure watching storylines and moments that I had forgotten about. I think I will have to watch it again in the future, that's for sure.

This extra ordinary show is in my blood. The best ever Police drama produced. Not a bad season. Gritty. Real. Relevant. Whenever I feel I need a fix of quality drama, I go back to the Shield.

I remember hearing at the time when Shane killed his family and offed himself was similar to the wrestler Chris Benoit doing almost the same thing and they kind of took that and incorporated it into the last show.

The difference between Shane and Vic was that in the end, Shane would go about to protect his family to the best of his ability. He was more human! Thank you Walton Goggins for this great experience.
