It does save a bit of time if done correctly. Normally Squawks' vertical speed starts to decrease immediately after pressing A, while firing an egg fixes it for 19 frames. I was just mashing A and B at the same time to try and keep the vertical speed fixed at a high value as long as possible. The problem is horizontal speed is fixed as well while doing this, making dodging stuff much harder.

I'm actually shocked. There I was thinking I defeated Pack by taking his 3-B record in July, but somehow that final time of his that was supposedly maxed turned out not to be. I would never have thought ceiling boosts could be applied here but all that was required was a stroke of genius to take this record a frame lower. And with that, the packattack saga truly is over. Incredible work!

I was wondering what you meant when you said there was "something else to be added" in your 1:07.52 description and thought it might be the early wheel strat but I never thought to despawn the fireballs so I would always hit the third fireball when shooting out of the cannon, great discovery and run

Might be worth noting that for the first momentum bounce you can actually start with a rising high bounce using the mushroom before the first hippo.

Great job with absolutely destroying my time. Worth mentioning that the rising bounce right at the end isn't necessary as you can do the ending so fast that the tiki is too low for you to make it up to the final spring, even without said rising bounce (the 55.2x pace I lost died to just that).

I was convinced the record would stay at 46.49 because nobody would attempt the roll save with 6 frame-perfect bounces but I guess somehow you saved a frame with x-pos manip alone, great job

slightly late on this but it was by accident, costing him around .4 so I think this would've barely missed the 2:23 without that hit (I don't know much about second phase RNG but he got no slow turnarounds in the third phase so you still need to get very lucky to beat this time)

in a bunch of levels you can die right after the checkpoint and save time because the timer takes a while to start again and you end up further forward than you would be otherwise when it does

It's pretty hard to optimize rolling right after you pound, because you have to stop shaking for a certain amount of time before you can press right and shake again. You can't just press right to roll when you're shaking for the pound. Just so you know there is a jump sequence at the end found by time attack. It's pretty hard to do in real time, it requires a lot of frame-perfect inputs, but it saves you one landing.

i can't exactly tell where the biggest mistake was in this run, but it's worth noting that the tas isn't optimal and that this can probably go to around 42.74 or something similar, based on the mistakes i had in my own 8X runs

Not sure, maybe a low .2/high .1. I launched out the final barrel slightly too early, got hit, and finished with a 57.67 in that run.

(That's my TAS Time, and yes I'm the one who found the faster cycle in case you didn't know) Might be worth noting that you could've shook the wiimote at 53.47 to do sort of a dead roll jump. The reason is to take away the little bit of time that dk takes to grab on to the ledge.

It never made sense why Pack’s 58.07 stood for so long, both me and Leah put hundreds of attempts into this a while ago and couldn’t close out a WR with no turnaround. I still don’t know what the odds are of getting it are (honestly they feel worse than 8-B) but I’m glad someone finally has. Only 3-B is left of Pack’s untied records, gl to anyone who tries to beat it.

yeah, both of us did manage to get the good pattern at least once but we choked due to nerves. that time honestly felt like a curse, i'm glad i don't have to think about it anymore, maybe there's a way to specifically get the crabs to do the fast pattern consistently but the chances just felt astronomically low

When I played this level I didn't spawn as close to the rocket as you did. Is it just luck, or does it have to do with the version of the game?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the time when DK starts falling after death depends on load times, so it varies slightly on console. I've always been able to hold right and land in the rocket after death on this level though.

Why do you only use the wiimote and not a nunchuck? I think you have to hold down the 1 button to dash, but with the nunchuck you don't have to hold down any button to dash.

I normally use nunchuck but vertical climbing is faster with wiimote only, so I use that control scheme for a few levels.

@@shugabrush3671 It's not faster, just way easier RTA. Holding up-right, for example, on a dpad is easy because you just press up and right at the same time, but on an analog stick you have to be perfectly in the notch or it won't work. So for TAS you can obviously use either.

do you think it's possible that the activation point for the final rotating bananas is around that specific strawberry at 27.9 on the timer, in the middle of the group of three? it's hard to time accurately with my video quality, but our runs seemed about even for most of the level, give or take a frame, until the ending, where the bananas appear to have activated about two frames earlier for you. i think it's possible that, if the activation point really is at that specific strawberry, i may have done an extra roll to reach it (since i landed on the left edge and not the middle) and lost a few frames in the process

When I played this I thought the activation point was around where the three koalas spawn. I just did a test where a stopped for about a second after that strawberry then carried on to the end. The bananas still appeared as they would in a normal run, meaning they hadn't been activated before I'd stopped. My guess would be that the activation point is around 30.0 on the timer, between where the first and second koalas end up, but I'm not 100% sure.
